Grammy award winning singer, songwriter, and producer, Miguel, took over REVOLT LiveΒ on MondayΒ evening, celebrating the release of his latest LP, βWildfire.β
Miguel took a moment early in his set to address the crowd, expressing how truly honored he was to be able to perform for his people in his city. Β βIt’s because of you that I can make music, and I just want to say I truly appreciate you all.β The adoring crowd of over 2,000 fans roared in reciprocity.
As a boy, Miguel listened to the eclectic musical interests of his parents which included funk, jazz, and R&B. Early on, Miguel began developing his dancing abilities, but by the age of 14, it was his vocal talent that would take precedence.
Miguel signed for several years with Black Ice Records, an independent record label, but walked away from the deal when he decided to change his look and sound. Black Ice subsequently sued for him for breach of contract, causing his debut album with Jive Records,Β All I Want is You, to be shelved for two years. Due to under-marketing by Jive,Β All I Want is YouΒ debuted at #106 on the Billboard 200 chart, gaining commercial popularity only after falling off of the chart completely. After ultimately peaking at #37, and spending 45 weeks on the chart,Β All I Want is YouΒ was followed by Grammy Award-nominatedΒ Kaleidoscope DreamΒ in 2012, andΒ Wildfire, which is already proving to be a smashing success.
Miguel treated the roaring crowd to performances of songs from his latest project, including βWaves,β βCoffee,β and βFace the Sun,β featuring Lenny Kravitz. He also sprinkled in a few hits from his catalog, “All I Want Is You,” and a captivating mashup of βHow Many Drinksβ and Kendrick Lamarβs βSwimming Pools.β Succumbing to the crowdβs chant for an encore performance, Miguel closed the show with a fan favorite, βAdorn.β
Miguel kicks of the first leg of his tourΒ July 21, 2015Β in Austin, Texas.Β WildfireΒ is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and other retailers.
