If you were trying to drive around the Inglewood, CA area during Friday evening you might have faced a little more traffic than the usual LAX disruption. Sorry about that but you’re just going to have to forgive me and the 17,000 other Harry Styles’ fans determined to see our favorite London boy.
Styles released his highly anticipated second album Fine Line on Friday (December 13) and celebrated by performing the tracklist from start to finish for a one night only sold-out show at The Forum in Los Angeles. It was a night of rock n’ roll, swooning, and admiration for Styles as he hushed the roaring crowd to say, “I’m back.” He even wore the exact outfit he dons for the album’s cover, a bright pink collared shirt with white trousers.
What I saw on Friday night was unreal and speaks to just how talented Harry is. However, there is a special element that some artists possess that goes beyond talent and launches into bettering our universe through their art. The second to last track on Styles’ album is “Treat People With Kindness” (TPWK) a song that he says was inspired by his fans. It is not just something he says in one of those little speeches artists give in between songs. This man has been preaching it for years on all his social media, at his shows, and now as a song. On Friday night, he told the crowd, “Please feel free to be whoever you want to be tonight.” It was beautiful to see an audience made up of different ages, races, genders, and sexualities. We love an inclusive king!
In addition to performing all the songs of his new album. Styles gave the crowd an encore performance featuring a surprise duet performance with the legendary Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac. I am 100 percent positive my soul left my body as I was not in any way prepared to hear “Landslide” performed live right in front of my face. It was a moment that every concertgoer night will undoubtedly cherish forever.
Now, I am no stranger to a performance from Mr. Styles. I first saw him perform with One Direction back in 2014 and then I saw a solo Harry in London in 2017 at the Eventim Apollo while he was touring for his debut album. I was hoping he would perform the nostalgic One Direction hit “What Makes You Beautiful” for the sake of my always present inner teenage fangirl and thank God he did! Additionally, during the encore, he got festive and performed Paul Mccartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime.” Literally, fake snow fell from the ceiling of The Forum and everyone went crazy.
The show could not officially conclude however with what has become Styles’ signature song at his shows and fan-favorite “Kiwi” (track from his debut album). The way he dances during this song will give you the energy you need to get through your life. In general, his energy is always electric, his concerts are always fun, and you should go ahead and stream Fine Line the album right now.
If you didn’t get a chance to see Harry at this show, don’t worry, he’s hitting the road for a tour with dates in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, and Europe. Check out tour dates here. In the meantime, live vicariously through these fan posted videos from the LA show below.
