Dashboard Confessional plays a stellar sold out show at The Rooftop At Pier 17.
On Thursday, September 12 The Knockturnal attended a sold-out show by American rock band, Dashboard Confessional at The Rooftop AT Pier 17.Β
The Brooklyn Bridge was the perfect backdrop to the third show of the Dashboard Confessional 2024 tour. The Rooftop At Pier 17βs skyline and waterfront views made it all the more special. The breezy weather couldnβt have been better. The general vibe of the crowd in the all general admission venue was lets rock and rock they did.Β
Lead singer Chris Carrabba walked out to a screaming and excited crowd opening with The Best Deceptions from the bandβs second studio album The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most. Followed by Again I Go Unnoticed from their debut studio album The Swiss Army Romance. The set list included songs from five of their studio albums, their EP So Impossible,Β and ten of the fifteen songs from their MTV Unplugged 2.0 live album. Β
At one point during the show and to the crowds delayed notice the lights briefly went out as the band played. During which Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz used flashlights to light up the stage, yes you read correctly. Adam Duritz, lead singer of the Counting Crows and good friend of Chris Carrabba went down to the media pit to help with lighting as flashlights were rushed to the stage. Chris made sure to tell everyone βIβm still with you, Iβm with you all the way.β He said it in his sweet soothing voice. A voice made for serenading. Everyone knew he meant it. Soon after, the lights were up.Β
A beautiful moment during their set, Chris mentioned his daughter and how she recently saw the movie This Is Us and how sad it made her. Chris asked her why it made her so sad and she said not just because of the movie but because his song was playing in the background, to which he replied βAwe you know my songs?β Everyone laughed and then they played that song. It was Carry This Picture from their third studio album A Mark, A Mission, A Band, A Scar.Β
Chris introduced his bandmates Chris Kamrada, drums, Scott Schoenbeck, bass, piano, keyboards, Kenny Bridges, guitar, Abigail Kelly, backing vocals, and Armon Jay, lead guitarist at some point during the show.Β When he introduced Armon Jay he followed up with, when he asked Jay to join the group, Jay had one condition. His condition was that every night he gets to pick a song and they must play it. Apparently, Armon is very superstitious and always chooses the same song for good luck. That song was Saints And Sailors from their The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most album.Β
A fun surprise was when Chris announced new music, specifically a new song with tour mate and lead singer of Boys Like Girls Martin Johnson called Watch The Fire.Β
The band finished with fan favorite and Spiderman (Tobi) anthem Vindicated from their Dusk and Summer album with the encore Hands Down from their So Impossible EP.Β
The fans wouldβve stayed as long as they would have played. It was a fantastic show.Β
