Italian furniture designer Calligaris was joined by LUXE and Venchi to host private store-opening event to celebrate Calligaris’ first New York Flagship, located in SoHo.
Calligaris, the signature Italian furniture brand instantly associated with luxe materials and innovative design as been around for over 90 years but has yet to have a flagship New York location. Receiving distribution from a select few New York retailers, it seemed high time to break out on its own. It finally happened on March 8th, 2017 when Calligaris’ new location at 55 Thompson Street opened to a celebratory crowd. Centrally located in Soho off Broome Street, the store features an eclectic mix of furnishings for every type of room.
Laid out in a tasteful and chic manner, it’s hard to imagine Calligaris anywhere else than uber-chic Soho, where the brand’s store is an important addition to ranks of iconic sleek furniture shops lining the cobblestone streets. The contrast is breathtaking, and Calligaris’ glass fronted location offers passerby a glimpse into a highly innovative and beautifully built environment.
The opening party was as fabulous and dynamic as the furniture itself, with LUXE interiors and design partnering with Calligaris to present the evening. Chocolate treats provided by legendary chocolatier Venchi and endless bubbly (which received ever-more ambitious pours as the night wore on) where available for guests to enjoy.
The evening was accented and totally enhanced by a soulful and energetic performance by Sammulous, who is due to perform at America’s Got Talent later this year. With the prosecco on a steady stream and signature cocktails inspired by the furniture being passed, the crowd grew more and more relaxed as Sammulous turned up the heat with a rendition of some important Michael Jackson hits. With a diverse crowd enjoying the fabulous furnishings and the sounds, dancing finally broke out, and the night was not to be forgotten. With sales actually taking place as the night wore on, Calligaris employees sat with guests to help them design the perfect piece.
Calligaris designs are well-suited to the New York lifestyle as many of the designs are highly customizable and designed for convenience with a penchant for form with function. Low beds, expandable dining sets of lucite, wood, marble and granite construction, and plush sectional sofas are just the right size for the design-sensitive apartment-dweller. Some favorites are the “Bess” upholstered and wooden chair with a uniquely sophisticated and strong appearance thanks to the covered arms. Another impressive design is the “Cruiser”, presented in store as a leather and chrome monoback chair that seems to effortlessly defy gravity.
