It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The US Open is back and seating attendees at full capacity for the first time since the pandemic began. Official partner American Express hosted a very fun party last night (Aug. 24) to celebrate their pop-up tennis court activation at Pier 76. It was a beautiful evening to play tennis surrounded by the Hudson River.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a Van Leeuwen’s ice cream truck and Grey Goose cocktails. In the lounge space, guests enjoyed mini grilled cheese sandwiches, lobster rolls, and mini spring rolls, to name a few. We were able to play table tennis and were given a tennis lesson by Cesar Leon, who is the Junior Development Director at the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning. After our lesson, we left feeling very pro! Tennis is such a great workout and so much fun. Tennis star Coco Gauff even made a surprise appearance. She looked fabulous in the collection she designed with New Balance.
Between August 23 and 31, Card Members and tennis fans will have the ability to book one of six new pop-up tennis courts alongside spectacular views of the Hudson River. Players can also enjoy food and drinks at the on-site open-air lounge. Five of the six courts will be available to pre-book for American Express Card Members via go.amex/courts, with the sixth court available on a first-come-first-serve basis. A $5.00 court booking reservation fee is required and proceeds will be donated by Universe, the ticketing platform, to the USTA Foundations’ Excellence Team program, supporting youth tennis in underserved communities across the country.
Thank you to American Express for the invite!
