One thing that was apparent on Sunday night at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center was …BLACK GIRLS ROCK.
The annual ceremony honors and uplifts women from the African-American community by highlighting them for the night. The Knockturnal spoke with some notable attendees including singer and songwriter, Brandy, who shared her thoughts on how we can have more uplifting moments like this “Start with your own narrative with yourself so you can be the [reflection] for the person that’s watching you” the singer said.
Eboni K. Williams, former Fox Correspondent and Attorney was amongst the crowed of celebrities, we asked her what she would tell younger girls who looked up to her, Williams says “There was no space for somebody like me at a lot of the networks I’ve worked at, right? I decided It was important for me to […] instead of waiting for them to tell me what they want, I’m going to show you what you want”.
The show honored Angela Basset, Regina King, Ciara, H.E.R, Debra Martin, Gwen Carr, Lucy McBath, Geneva Reed-Veal, Cleopatra-Pendleton, Maria Hamilton and Sybrina Fulton.
Black Girls Rock airs September 8th on BET.
