On Friday, September 10th, Rebecca Minkoff presented her “I Love New York” capsule collection alongside her first-ever collection of NFT’s at Spring Studios.
Rebecca Minkoff has always been a step ahead of the game regarding technology meeting fashion, so it’s no surprise that Minkoff is the first female American designer to release a digital collection of NFT’s. Minkoff’s latest “I Love New York” collection pays homage to the city that has shaped the brand while celebrating the brand’s 20th anniversary. The celebration took place in Spring Studios sunken living room, where guests could view the series of model portraits by Cass Bird of the “I Love New York” capsule collection. A QR code was next to each image that guests could scan to place bids on their favorite NFT. OpenSea is hosting the sale of the Rebecca Minkoff NFT collection and processes will be used to fund a grant to help women-owned businesses impacted by the pandemic. While viewing the collection, guests were also able to pre-order any of their favorite Rebecca Minkoff pieces. Attendees such as Madison Pettis, Greivy Lou, Carmella Rose, Batsheva Haart, and Emma Brooks joined the viewing and cocktail hour co-hosted by Lady Phe0nix to celebrate the launch.
Rebecca Minkoff remains my favorite presentation during NYFW. I always feel as though she’s way ahead of the curve when it comes to inclusion and accessibility in fashion. I was initially taken back when I walked into the sunken living room at spring studios and only saw large images of the collection instead of the usual grandiose installations. After learning that the images were a part of the digital NFT collection that guests could bid on throughout the presentation, I returned to my usual state of admiration and awe when attending a Rebecca Minkoff presentation. With NFT’s (non-fungible tokens) being the new thing in the tech world, seeing Minkoff merge fashion and technology speak to how Minkoff is a solidified pioneer in the fashion industry. While I’m no expert on NFT’s, seeing them in this space sparks my interest and will surely spark many conversations about the role NFT’s may play in the future of fashion. Both the digital collection and the “I Love New York” collection are stunning and are available for pre-order now. Look below for images of the collection and event.
