For 2016’s Men’s Fashion Week, we started at Industria Superstudios in the Meatpacking District, NYC. Here we experienced New York Men’s Day, brought to you by Cadillac, exploring several presentations.
Check out our notes on HVRMINN ‘s Fall/Winter 2016 collection! There was such seriousness at HVRMINN. It was hard to imagine a more beautiful approach though. HVRMINN’s collection was defined by European influences; something a little World War I and II, with suits well tailored (if not dramatically), a highly restrained color palate, a uniquely contrasting validation of a time gone by. Still, it never felt like costume. It wasn’t campy. No, HVRMINN kept it modern through material and innovation; chiefly the unique cropped nylon coats over a few of the suits. This came as surprise, but a pleasant one. It was practical in a visual way, but not by virtue of implementation. Fur hat worn by an older model and a pair of coats looked prepared for taking the driver’s wheel of a Mercedes Benz Gelandewagen. To give an idea of what we picked out from the HVRMINN collection:
- Russian Dacha chic
- (High ranking) corrupt military chic
- Intensity and age chic
- Confidence chic
- Patriarchal chic (debatable; but see following)
- Approachability DIMINISHED[sic]
There you have it. HVRMINN has captured our attention, and not for the play on words.
