Rising star Amarii Davu just released a powerful record called “Cost Of Melanin”. The message of the song is just as strong if not stronger than the lyrics.
Amarii Davu, a 25 year old hip hop artist coming out of Nashville, TN, has released a well thought out and powerful record. It’s called “Cost Of Melanin” which was produced by Canis Major. For those who are not aware of what melanin is, it’s the dark pigmentation in people’s skin, hair and irises of the eye.
Amarii stated: “I wrote ‘Cost of Melanin’ because of the injustices that I see in the world around me. I felt that it was my duty as an Artist to document the things in my world and express them in not only a creative way but in a way that people won’t feel that its coming off too preachy.”
With everything that has been going on in society today, this record is much called for and needed. This is a slow tempo song that catches your eye and ears. Its content is undeniable with meaningful lyrics and a catchy bar by the witty rapper in which he says “maybe if I was light enough, they would think I was bright enough”.
Amarii Davu is set to release his upcoming project later this year titled “Khepri.” Stay tuned for more info on that and be sure to listen to his most recent record “Cost Of Melanin”.
