The cast members of the new series “The Good Cop” made it to the 34th Street AMC movie theater for the official premiere on Friday, September 21st. Josh Groban, Monica Barbaro, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Bill Kottkamp and Tony Danza were all smiles on the red carpet.

The Good Cop is a Netflix original series set in the present day staring Tony Danza and Josh Groban! Tony Danza plays a crooked ex-cop who comes out of jail and lives with his law obsessed son who is an officer that is so uptight he doesn’t swear or get traffic violations. The antics captured between this perfectly dysfunctional father son duo are moments money can’t buy. Each episode displays a test of their trust and brings them closer together. We get to watch this father and son relationship mature as each character is placed in a situation that forces them to “play a role” or “wear many hats”. As both father and son switch between personal and professional situations, this Netflix series becomes a show about their bond being tested. Hugs become frisks, and no one knows who is parenting or policing who!

This family friendly police procedural was produced by Israeli production company Yes alongside starring actor Tony Danza himself.  Howard Klein, a producer from The Office and The Mindy Project also collaborated along with creator, writer/executive producer Randy Zisk. Randy Zisk is an Emmy award winning writer who produced the crime drama Bones and the popular comedy / drama, Monk! This show’s ability to display officers struggling with personal relationships and their desire to find balance without breaking any laws, is what makes the dramedy innocent and different than any other crime or cop show out now!

Overall, episode 1 of The Good Cop was intense. The focus on uncomfortable and playful layers in relationships makes this a realistic, convincing, and risky series. The stars’ on screen chemistry and love for one another was believable and undeniably touched viewer’s hearts. Friends and family of cast and crew adored the show and raved about “streaming it for their nana!” Its emotionally gooey center proves why costume designer Staci Greenbaum says, “this isn’t really a cop show! It’s more about their antics” and how perfect their dysfunction truly is.

Although, this relationship is surrounded by the red tape and police policies of the precinct, this cop show still provides all the moving parts of great entertainment; it’s emotional, edgy, full of suspense, and crime!
