Chelsea’s SVA Theatre hosted some of the rap world’s biggest legends for a special screening of the new hip hop fashion documentary Fresh Dressed yesterday. The special event was presented by Mass Appeal, StyleHaul, CNN Films and Samuel Goldwyn Film.
In attendance was a veritable who’s who of hip hop and megastars such as Nas, Jadakiss, Karrueche, Daymond John, Ty Hunter, Puma, Consequence, Dave East, Destiny Jones, The Alchemist, Mimi Valdez, Eric B, Large Professor, Designer Samantha Black, Young Guru, Noreaga, and Pusha T mingled with the producers Peter Bittenbender, Marcus Clarke and press before the settling in to watch themselves on the big screen in longtime producer Sacha Jenkins’ directing debut – a fascinating chronicle of hip hop history and its impact on fashion worldwide. The film’s exploration of urban fashion from baggy pants and streetwear to corporations and fashion week runway shows was supported with many in-depth interviews with rappers, designers and fashion insiders (and, in the case of Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, people who are all three), and those of us lucky enough to be at the screening continued the conversation as we shuffled out of the theatre.
Fresh Dressed will be released In Theaters and On Demand at www.freshdressedmovie.com on June 26, 2015
