My Lady Jane is a satirical drama about the Tudor Dynasty in medieval Europe.
Based on the real life story of Lady Jane Grey, known as the “Nine Days Queen,” My Lady Jane follows Grey when her family is arranging a marriage for her. However, this series takes the real Lady Jane’s story and turns it upside down. In this alternate universe, the “damsel in distress, saves herself.”
My Lady Jane is based off of the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. It stars Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey and Edward Bluemel as Lord Guildford Dudley. In conversation with the stars, they shared how the show’s creators, Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, used their knowledge of the book to inform their method of executing this production.
“We have the most amazing showrunners, Gemma and Meredith who have such a clear vision and also a knowledge of the book that’s gone back for four or five years,” said Bader.
Edward Bluemel said that while filming he allowed the creators’ version of the story to act as his “bible” for the production. He also said he “let their hard work come through our characters.”
Although neither Bader or Bluemel read the novel prior to filming, they believe fans will find that the series features details from the book “and then some,” making for a fresh re-telling.
My Lady Jane also stars Jordan Peters, Mairead Tyers, Rob Brydon, Anna Chancellor and Kate O’Flynn.
It begins streaming on Prime Video on June 27.
