On Wednesday night hip hop heads and legends alike gathered to celebrate the Morrison Hotel Gallery’s Parental Advisory: Explicit Images Photography Exhibition.
The Photography exhibition showcased images some of hip hops finest including Jay Z, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lil Wayne, The Beastie Boys etc. photographed by iconic photographers such as Danny Clinch, Janette Beckman, Clay Patrick McBride, Lynn Goldsmith and many more. The exhibit was curated by Timothy White and co-hosted by Whoopi Goldberg and Darryl DMC McDaniels from RUN DMC. The evening featured performances by Mason Dean Whoopi’s grandson, Decora and the legendary DMC.
Mason Dean opened the show and from his stage presence and charisma you’d never guess he’s only 17! His raps were fun and engaging and got the crowd hype for the night. Following Dean was rapper Decora from Hudson Valley whose thought-provoking lyricism and table jumping had the crowd wild. The last performance of the night was by none other than DMC. In between songs DMC told anecdotes from his younger days and painted a vibrant picture of the culture and lifestyle shared by so many people in the room and portrayed in the imagery. DMC even took the time to speak with several fans and ask where they’re from before giving what were inarguably the best performances of the evening.
The event took place at the lovely PHD Rooftop at the Dream Hotel in New York City.
