The holidays are right around the corner and what better way to bring in the happiest time of the year than with a hands-on holiday baking class with Milk Bar founder, Christina Tosi.
Milk Bar is a chain of dessert and bakery restaurants featuring scrumptious treats like their bestselling Birthday Cake. It can be found in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Boston, Las Vegas, and Toronto. Tosi is a guru of desserts and along her journey has learned a few hacks in the kitchen to help her create the most delicious treats in the most efficient way. During her cooking class Tosi taught guests one of her favorite cookie recipes using her go to versatile kitchen tool, Ziploc®. “My favorite Ziploc® hack by far is to mix dough and roll it out in a Ziploc® gallon bag,” Tosi shared.
Guests arrived at Milk Bar in Los Angeles to individual baking stations prepared with a baking pan, pretzels in a container, 8 cookies set on a baking sheet, forks, and a spoon and of course, a Ziploc® bag. On the agenda was to make peppermint bar snaps, a perfect treat for the holidays. If you weren’t able to join Tosi’s cooking class don’t fret, the Milk Bar founder has also released her new cookbook, All About Cookies with more than 100 new cookie recipes and inspiration to create your own masterpieces. “I was really intentional in writing All About Cookies. I wanted to write a cookbook that spoke to anyone and everyone. Cookies are portable, transportable, shareable and these are all things we’re looking for in a holiday dessert,” Tosi shared.
As mentioned earlier Tosi incorporates Ziploc® bags into her baking in the most unique ways including decoration. After finishing our batch of peppermint bar snaps guests were encouraged to decorate their Ziploc® bags with holiday spirit. However, if you’re not the crafty type Tosi reminds us that we can also use the bags for a variety of things from rolling dough, piping frosting, and crushing graham crackers, to easy storage for sharing with friends and family. After feeling like master bakers for the night, guests were treated to gift bags including Tosi’s new cookbook, sample Milk Bar cookies, a rolling pin, baking pan and of course, Ziploc® bags.
