Seems like March is the new year. January came in hot, and February had its boxing gloves on. But Marchโhere we are. Whatโs that we feel in the air? A bit more sunshine and a breeze that hints at the spring days we long for.
So, happy new year to my readers. I hope youโve been planting seeds because now itโs time to sprout.
As a Black writer, I deeply appreciate every opportunity to be invited into spaces that celebrate culture, creativity, and craftsmanship. This private lunch was no exception. Walking into the room, I was immediately transportedโimmersed in an experience so carefully curated, it awakened the creative art director in me. If there were ever a way to truly understand Albariรฑo, this was it.
A Taste of Rรญas Baixas
The intimate gathering showcased the vibrant flavors of the Galician wine region, a lush area often referred to as Green Spain. Known for its breathtaking coastal landscapes, Rรญas Baixas is home to the Albariรฑo grape, a native variety that produces some of the worldโs finest white wines. But beyond the wine, the region is equally celebrated for its outstanding locally sourced cuisine, a perfect pairing that unfolded before us through an exquisite three-course menu crafted by a Michelin-starred chef.
An Exclusive Seat at the Table
What makes experiences like these so special is the people at the table. With only 17 seats available, every conversation held weight, every introduction held potential. I had no idea who would be in the room before arriving, but simply being considered for an invitation was an honor in itself. What followed was even more rewardingโI made great new connections, met some incredible individuals, and left feeling enriched by the shared energy in the space.
A Masterclass in Wine & Storytelling
One thing I respect about Kevin McGuire is his ability to bring a story to life. As he walked us through the wine pairings, he didnโt just describe the processโhe made us feel it. With every sip, it was as if we were transported to the sun-drenched vineyards of Rรญas Baixas, experiencing the crisp ocean air and the centuries-old winemaking traditions that define the region.
As someone who has explored some of the best that New York has to offer, I can say this was a standout experience. Itโs always an honor to witness those who represent their collective so well, and I look forward to sharing more from them in the future.

Hereโs to new beginningsโboth in March and beyond.
