Conductor, artist and a lover of music; thus is the basis for a character like Marc E. Bassy.

Marc E. Bassy, born in 1987, is a singer and music producer that has been dropping tracks for years; working with the likes of G-Eazy, Wiz Khalifa and Prince Royce —  tactical geniuses in their own right — to bring about creativity, and liberate the greatness of his pieces.

The Knockturnal has gotten an exclusive with the artist, as we discuss previous hits, his ambitions and future prospects.

How did this music career of yours start? What were the first steps?

Marc: My music career began with me performing poetry slams in high school. And I was approached by a bunch of musicians that went to my high school that were looking for a vocalist, and they just asked me: “can you just keep doing what you’re doing, but with music?” And so, I kinda started out there. And after high school, moved to LA with some members of the band. And started fully pursuing it full-time.

How do you feel when you’re in the studio recording music? What’s your mood and thought-process when making tracks?

Marc: My mood changes. I don’t wanna say I’m too moody of a person, but slightly moody, and maybe like a 7 on the moody scale. So depending on how I’m feeling, I put that feeling into the music. So, I might be sad one day, I might be turnt-up another day. But I try to put it into the song. Just like anybody.

What message do you want people to derive from your tracks?

Marc: The message of being honest and true to yourself. And, especially as it pertains to art, to not be afraid to put yourself out there and be vulnerable.

So you dropped new single “You and Me” featuring G-Eazy; tell us about that.

Marc: Yeah. “You and Me” is a song I wrote actually, in New York. I went out, came back from California, had a demo of it and fleshed it out. And put the reggae guitars on it. And we transformed it into something different.

Is it fun to go on tour? To speak and sing for your fans?

Marc: Yeah. I love that man. That’s what it’s all about. Having an opportunity to connect with the fans is everything. I actually love to be there and be on stage and be myself. I’m only really myself on stage. It’s a special experience.

What’s your end-goal? What position do you intend to be in within the next couple of years? In regards to music or life in general?

Marc: That’s a big question, I dunno. I just wanna keep playing, travel a lot, sing my songs all over the world, and bring some beauty to the earth.

Any producers or artists you would like to collaborate with in the future?

Marc: Yeah, all the great ones. I wanna work with all the great ones. I’m very happy with the people who I do work with, so I don’t really focus on that but if Kanye wants to do a track together or Drizzy or Kendrick or any of the real people pushing the envelope, I’m all down for. There’s a lot of dope people out there.

What can fans expect from your next album?

Marc: Expect greatness.
