For the first time in years, I decided to take upon the adventure of trying a new perfume that I had never even smelled before. This is coming from the type of person who has only used three fragrances in 24 years.
Regardless of my cowardice, I thought that Jean-Paul Gaultier would be the perfect man to break up my perfume dry spell. He is known for his bold designs, like the cone bra that Madonna rocked in the 80s, and he has that French allure that drags you in.
I knew about his perfumes, and the beautiful bustier shaped bottles, but I didn’t know that he had a new fragrance coming out.
This year, Puig took over the license of his perfumes and released a summer version of the two classics: Le Male and Classique in Eau Fraîche format. These are presented through an adorable and entertaining comic called Spinach and Stockings featuring Popeye the Sailor Man, Betty Boop, and Jean Paul Gaultier.
When I received the fragrance, I spent a few minutes trying to decipher the cylinder can and how to open it. Gladly, I didn’t break it and I found that it opens from the bottom. It has the Classique women’s shape adorned with cutesy images of Betty Boop in a custom Jean-Paul Gaultier powdery pink corset.
I decided to wear it for work the next day. It was a hot summer day and the strong scent stayed with me all day long.
The top notes of the fragrance are: lemon sorbet, ginger and sugar cane juice. The heart notes are: tiare, jasmine and orange blossom. The base notes are: neo-labdanum, vanilla and musk. This means that the fragrance is sweet and has a long lasting smell. It is not too flowery, yet not too overwhelmingly sugary. A little does go a long way, so just one splash is enough to keep the fragrance lasting all day.
