Last Wednesday Knock was on the scene as Uniqlo unveiled its FW 17 collection.
Last week, Spring studios hosted Japanese clothing brand, Uniqlo’s new LifeWear collection and presentation. The evening began with an introduction by Tadashi Yanai and the presentation showcased models wearing the latest collection with a stage set to recreate New York’s aesthetic. Following the presentation, guests enjoyed cocktails as they explored the different hubs of the LifeWear: NYC collection.
The space was very well organized, and minimalistic, similar to the layout of the retail stores themselves. As soon as you entered the studio space, a giant white wall showcased a blueprint map of the various parts of the collection as well the LifeWear: NYC mission statement. The inspiration behind the LifeWear collection came form Uniqlo’s “Japanese values of simplicity, quality and longevity” and New York was chosen as the unveiling site because it’s “a city that embodies the brand as no other through incredible cultural, fashion and lifestyle diversity.” The space was divided into 10 hubs including: knits, Uniqlo U, Denim, Heattech, Seasonal Highlights, Alrism, Ultra Light Down, Hana Tajima, Magic For All and INES DE LA FRESSANGE.
The various collaborative sections stood out the most such as INES DE LA FRESSANGE’s french collection with it’s european influence and Hana Tajima’s collection which featured multiple layers and headscarves thereby diversifying the collection. Uniqlo also partnered with Disney for the Magic For All collection thereby expanding into more children’s wear as well. Aside from the collaborations, the Uniqlo U and Seasonal Highlights sections featured newer designs and lighter faux fur that perfectly resonated with New York’s lifestyle and aesthetic. The collection overall looked amazing and we can’t wait for it to hit stores this fall/winter.
