Lighting Artist Bentley Meeker’s ‘186,282’ Opens At The National Arts Club
It was a great night of art viewing, mingling and an awesome performance by Treasure Teeth at the prestigious Gramercy neighborhood National Arts Club. Bentley Meeker got an opportunity to display his amazing exhibit 186,282 in the Grand Gallery of the club.
The exhibition consisted of 24 light frames displayed alongside three contemporary chandeliers made of re-purposed hand blown glass pipes entitled “Bongoliers 1, 2 and 3.” Each piece conveys the space between our vision and senses by the use of spectrum in multiple light sources. Looking at each piece made me feel as though I was looking into a deep portal of light. I’m sure each viewer was able to experience a different feeling when looking through each frame.
The use of light in this exhibition was visually pleasing with the dimmed lighting throughout the gallery room. The exhibit was uniformed and yet elaborate to say the least. Bentley commented, “Light has been a lifelong passion of mine and I am so pleased with the work on display tonight. Whether people enjoy the works for their surface appeal or if they’re feeling the juxtaposition of halogen and LED light that I put out there doesn’t matter so much to me as long as they’re getting something out of the art. The National Arts Club is an incredible Gramercy Park institution and I’m proud to have my frames up on the walls here.”
