At Christie’s modernist Midtown headquarters, LongHouse Reserve stepped into new educational territory, hosting an inaugural Larsen Lecture with architect and designer Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY Architects.
As I stepped into the bustling expo hall at Artexpo 2023, a crouching figure sight immediately caught my eye.
The Knockturnal was honored to sit at the feet of highly accomplished art activists and trailblazers. While listening front row on the importance of African-American art, and its impact on our planet, thanks to Martell’s revival of Loïs Mailou Jones’s work and philosophy, the rebirth of the Little Paris Group came to fruition! Aiming to produce mentorship in modern-day popular art, a meeting of the minds, and magic, took place on Wednesday, March 23, 2023, in Brooklyn, New York at the Bishop Gallery. Headlining this revival was none other than the eclectic, aristocratic singer, and actress, Janelle Monáe!

Last month, we were on the scene for the cocktail celebration at The Knickerbocker Hotel to see firsthand their commitment to diversity and the celebration of Black artists. This series was in honor of Black History Month, Brooklyn’s Bishop Gallery has curated the hotel’s inaugural exhibition, Young, Gifted, and IcoKnick.
Artist Tara Subkoff described her new performance piece as a three part journey. Actress Jamie King starred in the cacophonic multimedia show. Poet Monique Erickson read an emotional poem about motherhood. MET opera and blues singers delivered marvelous vocals. Subkoff’s performance piece reflected on comfort, conflict, and trauma.
