The Black Cat in Silverlake hosted a national coming-out day party for the ages, and even my old ass felt like a brand new queer on the scene.
There were drag performers, singers, and a set from our patron saint of bisexuality, Margaret Cho.
The impossibly cute crowd, rushed forward as she took the stage, a comedy legend in our midst. She did about 20 minutes of mostly autobiographical material, naturally including her coming out story.
It was both a hoot and a holler and made me wistful for those younger days when I was still figuring it all out.

Our queen Lauren Banall hosted the event, and kept things moving at a brisk and buoyant pace. She also did an incredible number that had me deep in my feelings before it made me laugh my ass off.

I had a sensational spam musubi and my fiancee had garlic noodles that knocked his socks off. I had a couple of cocktails made by the excellent Black Cat staff, and we posed for step and repeat pics after catching up with all my old fruity friends.
The night wound down with more grade-A performances and a badass DJ. I wish every day could be a coming out day.
Founded in 2023 by PJ Brescia, BabyGay is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the coming out process through storytelling and community building. From its beginnings at the LA LGBT Center, BabyGay has grown to partner with major organizations and participate in Pride Festivals across California.
