The Knockturnal attended the premiere of HBO’s DTF St. Louis, held at the Director’s Guild of America in Los Angeles.
DTF St. Louis, starring Jason Bateman, David Harbour, Linda Cardellini, Richard Jenkins, and Joy Sunday, follows a love triangle that goes deadly wrong after two coworkers (played by Bateman and Harbour) join a casual dating app called “DTF St. Louis” in an effort to spice up their monotonous lives and dead-end marriages.
On the red carpet prior to the screening, we spoke with Richard Jenkins (who plays “Donoghue Homer”) about the dynamic and safe atmosphere of the DTF St. Louis set, and the evolution of his character.
Jenkins recalls, “[The set] was a beautiful place to be. You felt protected; you felt like you could do work, that whatever you did would be okay. You felt safe as an actor.”
We also spoke with Joy Sunday (who plays “Jodie Plumb”) about her favorite on-set memory and what initially drew her to the role.
In regards to her character, Sunday feels particularly connected to “The thoughtfulness that was put into her, and to how she expands in the show. I just really thank Steven Conrad so much for crafting such a beautiful story, for everyone…I appreciate the fact that there’s a lot of empathy and curiosity.”
The first episode is out now on HBO Max, with new episodes premiering every Sunday until the season finale on April 12th.
