The KSR Group celebrated the worldwide release of the “Promise” music video by Josh X at its holiday party on December 19.The Julliard-trained artist blends his classical technique with his cultural roots, all interwoven with conventional R&B influence. His hybrid genre makes for a unique sound and a recognizable twist on modern music.
“[My mom] told me she was gonna let me play classical music,” Josh X said, “and I realized, at six, that wasn’t too popping.”

“Promise”, produced by Dro (aka T. Mickey), blends R&B lyrics with a Konpa rhythm, harking back to the artist’s Haitian roots. “Being a Haitian American, it is very common to walk into a backyard and see the grown folks getting it in to a Konpa record,” Josh X said. “As a kid, I always envisioned myself recreating that energy and adding my style and twist on it and ‘Promise’ was born.”
The artist is very loyal to his Caribbean roots, which is, as he puts it, “where the flavor comes from.”
On the red carpet, Josh X called his discovery “a destiny story.”
“When I was at the radio station one day, at POWER 105.1, I was doing an interview with DJ Self, and Shaft, who is the CEO of KSR, and was over there, he happened to be listening to my music, and saw the interview. He had an artist by the name of Cardi B that he was working with – this was years ago – and I said to him, I believe in the movement, me and my team ended up severing ways, and I said to Shaft, you and me have made such a relationship, and here we are.”
