6. The Year of the Feminist
On January 21st, 2017, The Women’s March in Washington D.C. took place. Days following the hardily memorable inauguration of Donald Trump as president, Millions of women from around the world took to the streets in protest against rape culture and to advocate in favor of women’s rights, immigration reform, and healthcare. There was an estimated 2 to 3 million women, as well as some men at the March as well. As almost a direct result of the March, women all around the nation grew inclined to run positions in office and to open up about their personal experiences with rape and molestation. The Women’s March was the “largest single-day demonstration in recorded U.S history,” according to Vogue Magazine. All in all, 2017 was a great year for advocacy of women’s rights. I’m pretty confident this year was only the precursor to the greatness 2018 has in store for women across the nation.
