Kendrick has been able to follow up a practically flawless record with a gang of A1 visuals.
TDE ‘s video production team deserves a heavy serving of love (shoutout to Collin Tilley) for the amount of talent whipped into this year’s releases. From Jay Rock’s “Vice City” to Kendrick’s “Alright” the crew has shown a conceptual versatility that isn’t common among most rapper’s visual teams. I’m also definitely a fan of this trend of expanding videos, injecting stories that aren’t exactly connected to the primary themes of the tracks, rather referencing underlying references. It’s a refreshing change from watching “shot of rapper in front of project building” tied to “shot of rapper in front of different project building”.
Contrasting sex and imprisonment as walls we get trapped in, Collin takes what is a very serious message and handles it with grace. Although filled with serious and well thought out shots, the video takes time to give screen time to the brighter things in life…like Terry Crews hitting the Quan. I can only dream of how that brainstorming session went, and how it was pitched to Terry.
As a whole, the visuals are great, playing to artistic and comedic strengths. It’s another easy win for Collin Tilley and TDE. Check it out Below
