Exclusive: Kathryn Hahn Talks Febreze Campaign, Career & More

We spoke to Kathryn Hahn about everything from soup to salad preference to being the voice of Febreze to her work on Bad Moms and Transparent. Check it out!

Febreze launched its toughest formula to-date with a fun comedy event “Odor Odes Poetry Slam and Workshop,” hosted by actress Kathryn Hahn, who also provided the voice overs for the latest Febreze TV and online campaign ‘I Love You, But Sometimes You Stink’  – which premiered at the event. NYC’s own Upright Citizen’s Brigade (UCB) also be performed. One of the spots in the campaign will appear during this year’s Super Bowl, titled “Halftime Bathroom Break.”

Kathryn and her UCB guests presented Odor Odes, showing love for the most important things in our life…even when they stink. After they were done, guests had the opportunity to work with improv members of the UCB to write their own custom Odor Odes.

Other upcoming Hahn projects include: set to star opposite Kevin Bacon and Griffin Dunne in “I Love Dick” – the pilot can be seen on Amazon – a few additional episodes will premier later this week at Sundance – and the entire first season will stream in May of this year. https://www.amazon.com/I-Love-Dick/dp/B01J77H9Z0

Later this winter she’ll co-star in the indie film “Flower” – opposite Zoey Deutch and Adam Scott. “Bad Moms” sequel “Bad Moms Christmas” will begin filming this Spring.

The Knockturnal: So, you’re a freshman at…

Kathryn Hahn: …at Tulane. (Laughter)

The Knockturnal: You studied at Yale School of Drama, did you learn anything? Did that contribute to your current life?

Kathryn Hahn: Didn’t learn one damn thing. Just kidding, it was the best. The best! Three years of rehearsing plays at two A.M., I played Granma Joad. Nurse Ratchet, darling.

The Knockturnal: How many people call you Jennifer Barkley [from Parks and Recreation]?

Kathryn Hahn: Quite a few! I really wish Jennifer Barkley was around right now. I loved that character. I loved that show.

The Knockturnal: I think a lot of people who worked on the show still think about the show.

Kathryn Hahn: It was a pretty special working environment. And really welcoming to all of us little guest stars.

The Knockturnal: What was it like to work on Transparent?

Kathryn Hahn: I played the Rabbi. You’ve really done your homework, this is good.

The Knockturnal: I’m so sorry.

Kathryn Hahn: Darling, please. I play the rabbi on the show Transparent. A woman rabbi. It was heaven to work on with Jay Duplass. This was a very hard season for the rabbi, she kind of dealt with a lot of loss.

The Knockturnal: This is a serious role.

Kathryn Hahn: It’s pretty serious. But I had worked with Jill Solloway, who created it, before, so I was happy.

The Knockturnal: Soup or salad?

Kathryn Hahn: Depends on the weather. Some nights you want a hot bowl of soup, some days you want to clean it out with a salad.

The Knockturnal: No one needs a salad. Anyway, you’ve done some voiceover work for Febreze!

Kathryn Hahn: I’m the voiceover artist for this campaign, Odor Odes.

The Knockturnal: How’d you get involved in this?

Kathryn Hahn: They very sweetly asked me and I was excited to hear the pitch for the campaign. I thought it was really clever. I am a mother, I have a dog, I have a husband; a trunk of a car. I love the idea that the things you love the most end up smelling the most.

The Knockturnal: Have you done stand-up work? Are you inclined to be funny?

Kathryn Hahn: No, I never did stand-up. But I was always the class-clown. I’d always get a “Katherine!” at the back of the class; the nuns yelling at me.

The Knockturnal: Bad Moms, what did you think? Did you enjoy that? A robust and female cast?

Kathryn Hahn: We were really excited and it affirmed our senses that there was a huge audience for this, and we’re doing a sequel!

The Knockturnal: Tell me about the sequel!

Kathryn Hahn: All I know is it will be Christmas themed and I think you’ll be able to see our character’s mothers.

The Knockturnal: Which should be interesting. Thanks so much Katherine!
