Hornitos and The Gay Games: A Love Story. I had the privilege of stopping by The Warm-Up, a day party aimed at limbering us queers up for a week of Olympic-style events in Guadalajara and Hong Kong.
Host Brandon Anthony kicked us off by introducing the absolute carnival laid out before us: four square, pop a shot, giant badminton, mini golf, futbol – it was all there!
Hornitos is a major sponsor of the Gay Games, and invited Outloud Sports, the original queer sports league, to participate in the event.
I was great at baseball as a kid but HATED playing basketball because everyone was so mean. As a gentle little queer soul, it just wasn’t it.
But on this day I was shooting lights out! And congregating with my people, sipping custom cocktails and dancing to a slappin soundtrack.
I talked to so many other folks with a similar story of alienation despite us being kinda good at sports. We’re missing out on so many athletes because of queerphobia. But for today, we had a home!
While Hornitos Jenga was incredibly stressful, it gave me and the Outloud Sports crew a chance to bond and, of course, drank.
Outloud has over 65,000 athletes across the country and are RAPIDLY expanding. With so many anti-lgbt bills passing around the country, I consider this resistance!
The Gay Games go till November 11th and have already made history. Shoutout to Hornitos for being our high school gym class bestie.
