HBO’s Mountainhead is like SNL meets finance and tech bros during lunch on Wall Street. The cast‘s chemistry is impeccable, and the film’s banter is hilarious and thought-provoking. The movie’s plot questions the negative impacts that AI and deepfakes have on our technologically evolving world, and it left audience members at the screening with important rhetorical questions about the deepening impact of media and how we perceive everything.
Regardless of whether or not you’re an existentialist, the film presents heavyweight moral debates, all while effortlessly sprinkling in (much needed) comedic relief at every turn. Mountainhead left viewers hysterically laughing during the screening, as the cliff hangers got more and more intriguing. I’m not sure who in the cast was the funniest, but the castmates maintaining straight and serious faces, as they each delivered the most sarcastic responses, left me in awe, and had me wondering how many takes the cast needed to shoot during what seemed like long-form SNL skits. I absolutely loved the duality of the film and that’s something that I’m personally drawn to as a movie enthusiast. I am passionate about films being multifaceted, layered, and unexpected and Mountainhead delivered just that – across the board.
