The wait is over, 27 years later the clown that gives us nightmares has made his way back to haunt the small town of Derry in IT Chapter Two!
As you recall, Pennywise, an evil clown tormented the sleepy town of Derry, Maine until a group of “losers” killed him…or so they thought. Now the grown up members of the “Loser’s Club” have been summoned back to their hometown to fight their fears and take down the murderous clown for good.
On Saturday, August 24 The Knockturnal got the “IT” experience as the Derry Canal Days Festival made it’s way to Los Angeles, CA! With over ten immersive and terrifying interactive spaces, visitors were surely in for a spine tingling experience. Upon entry into the carnival, first stop was the food stands. On the menu were shrimp shu mai dumplings, corn dogs, sirloin sliders and tacos, the perfect festival grub. True to our cherished carnival memories, some of our favorite prize winning games were available for all to play such as ring tossing, bean bag toss at moving Pennywise figures and a race to fill up a balloon with a water gun. Guests became big kids as they cheered for their wins and grunted at their losses. As the games brought our competive nature out, the true fan favorite of the night was Canal Day’s infamous fun house! Guests were split into small groups as we were led through spooky rooms that replicated the fun house featured in IT Chapter Two. While I don’t want to spoil it, I can say you can expect to jump out of your skin on several occasions and there might possibly be a visit from Pennywise himself. As we slowly and warily exited the fun house we could hear screams from the group behind us that were entering. It is a definite, must try! The Derry Canal Days Festival is free and open to the public until September 8 at the corner of Hollywood and Vine.
The fun didn’t stop there, on Sunday Aug 25 The Knockturnal got to chat with Chosen Jacobs and Isaiah Mustafa who play Mike Hanlon. Along with the rest of the “losers,” Mike must conquer his fear in order to take down ‘It,’ so when asked if Jacobs or Mustafa had any irrational fears that they had to conquer, Mustafa replied rats while Jacobs has a fear of the dark. The two actors have formed quite the bond, laughing and joking with eachother so it was no surprise that when asked, out of the cast which kid and adult would be the bravest if they were in a real ‘It’ situation, they responded with each other’s names. Jacobs saying that he knows Mustafa is a protective father and would want to make sure his daughter didn’t have to live in a town with an evil, murderous clown.
