Club Getaway threw a fantastic party filled with food, drinks, and games to kick-start its 2026 anniversary year, a whopping 50 years since the adult camp was first created.
I entered Club Getaway’s event at Time Out Market Union Square knowing absolutely nothing about the camp. I walked out at the end of the night already having made dozens of friends, participating in several hilarious games, and leaving with a thirst for more.
The adult camp was hosting this little shindig for old and new members alike, and an individual from their team excited announced that this year would be 50 years since its inception. Still a bit confused about what the camp even entailed, I stepped around the tables of various food and drinks, noticing the sense of camaraderie between all the people there. They were arm in arm, greeting each other like old friends, and immediately engaging in filling each other in about what had been going on in their life. Several people approached me, and asked if I had been on a Club Getaway trip before.

I sheepishly responded that I barely knew what it was, and before I knew it, a dozen people were surrounding me, filling me in on their absolute favorite parts. Within ten minutes I was already astounded by the sheer wealth of things to do that this “camp for adults” professed. Some people said they lived for the adventure, waking up early and going on 6 am hikes. Others admitted that they just loved the late night drinking antics with their friends, and could never imagine waking up so early. One man grinned and stated he always did both. What everyone did agree on was that it was an amazing time, and extremely convenient for even the busiest schedules, since it was less than 2 hours from NYC.
The venue continued to bring out absolutely amazing food (I’m still thinking about that margherita pizza), and the camp team began rounds of uniquely embarrassing yet engaging games. I participated in the first, a situation that had me competing to jerk my hips to swing a ball on a rope between my legs into a cup attached to my belt. I’m sad to say I lost, but I was rolling in laughter the whole time so my chances were fairly slim from the start.

Next was the highlight of the evening: a race between two teams to toilet-paper-mummy an individual within a time frame. The antics that ensued were pure comedy as one of the teams tried and failed repeatedly to get even a small semblance of toilet paper on their person. The winners managed to cover the person from head to toe in white, and they were crowned the winners. I grabbed a bowl of cheese fries as I watched, thoroughly entertained.
Last was the show stopping finale game: a donut eating contest. Participants would have their hands tied behind their backs, and the donut would be suspended above them from a rope. To make matters even more interesting, the prize for winning was a free weekend at Club Getaway! The participants munched away, frantically chewing the single donut with frosting, eager to claim the prize. Finally someone swallowed their last bite and won the whole thing in a nail-biting finish. I realized with a jolt that this was but a small slice of what the actual Club Getaway has to offer. From some members’ accounts, entire days at the camp are filled with fun activities just like this, along with the great food and social atmosphere.

Experiencing this event gave me a small but enlightening taste of the actual Club Getaway. For anniversary year 2026, it strikes me as a refreshed destination that offers something a little different from the usual options, especially for anyone who wants a mix of activity, relaxation, and connection all in one place. I learned all of this while simply chatting with the individuals at this kick-off event, and seeing their eyes light up describing the club, their energy as they eagerly awaited their next visit, I know what I’m doing this summer for sure.
