Foot Locker Kicks Off Its Fifth ‘Week Of Greatness’

What better start to a week of legendary product launches than to kick it off with Carmelo Anthony?

Every year, Foot locker holds their “Week of Greatness”, a week dedicated to featuring and revealing the hottest new sneakers and gear from top brands such as Nike, Jordan, adidas, Under Armour, and more.

They kicked off the Week of Greatness with the star player of the New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony. He had a lot to share about Foot Locker’s new commercials with stars from many different sports, their new products, and the goals they hoped to reach with their new products. Carmelo couldn’t go into too many details about his new line of products to be released at Foot Locker, but he did shed some light by saying “It’s not going to be about telling you guys to go out and buy sneakers. It’s going to have a meaning behind it, it’s going to mean something.” He continued by talking about the one of the reasons he loves sneakers “It’s a conversation starter. Which ones do you have, which colors do you have, then it actually goes on into a much deeper conversation.” The response that shocked most of the crowd was when he was asked what the first pair of sneakers he really wanted was as a kid, to which he replied “KJ’s. Kevin Johnson’s sneakers.” No one saw that coming and many couldn’t even remember who Kevin Johnson was (he was a guard for the phoenix suns by the way).

They also launched a series of new commercials featuring Carmelo Anthony along with Ja Rule, Kyrie Irving, as well as New England Patriots Star Tom Brady, who parodied the “deflategate” situation and his suspension. This year, Foot Locker had intended to forgo the serious commercial route normally associated with athletes for a more comedic approach, providing some interesting and light hearted content. You can check out all of the commercials and their descriptions here:

·         Carmelo Anthony: Anthony encounters two men eager to experience Foot Locker’s “Week of Greatness” before it’s too late. Anthony begins to rattle off all of his moments of greatness and accomplishments, explaining how he isn’t too worried about a “window of greatness” closing on or off the court.

·         Tom Brady: Brady delivers a defensive rant on how some things are just naturally great after overhearing two men question how Foot Locker can achieve such greatness each year without being “up to something.”

·         Ja Rule: Ja Rule goes behind the wheel as a third-party car service driver who reminisces on his great days of the past while sharing his stories with his passengers.

·         Kyrie Irving (Kids Foot Locker): Irving runs into a boy who is playing a basketball game on his mobile phone and showing off how great he’s doing using Irving in the game. After complimenting the boy on his Kids Foot Locker gear, Irving lets him know that his performance as the boy in the same video game isn’t quite up to par.

If you want to see all that Foot Locker has in store for this year’s “Week of Greatness”, you can check out their Release Calendar for all the important dates. Foot Locker will also be featuring all of their new products on their Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages, so check them out for all the latest updates using the #WeekofGreatness hashtag.
