Flavors of Mexico: A Journey Through Culture and Personal Transformation

Embracing Life, Death, and Renewal at The Knickerbocker Hotel’s Celebration of Mexican Traditions

I’m excited to share the incredible ‘Flavors of Mexico‘ event with New York City and its distinguished people of influence. Over the course of three days, the Knickerbocker Hotel transported guests to the heart of Mexican culture, bringing the vibrant tastes and innovative mixology techniques of Mexico City to the St. Cloud Rooftop.

The drinks were a fusion of traditional Mexican flavors, creatively infused with modern techniques that captured the essence of Oaxaca and Jalisco. Each sip felt like a journey through the streets of Mexico City, a truly immersive experience.

One of the most striking moments of the event was encountering a woman dressed in a stunning black gown, adorned with intricate details. Upon asking, I learned she was representing La Catrina, an iconic figure associated with Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), celebrated on November 2nd. La Catrina is a symbol of how Mexicans embrace life and death, reminding us that the Day of the Dead is less about mourning and more about celebrating the lives of those who have passed on.

To be more personal with you guys—you all know I’m a Scorpio, a saved Scorpio, amen. One of our attributes is the death card. When I walked in and saw La Catrina, I thought, “Wow, how literal my card’s aspect is staring at me.” In my old religious mindset, I would have shunned what I saw, but I would have missed a connection. As I reflect on my own life this past summer, all of the developments, pruning, and expansions, I can see death to a few old habits and mindsets within myself. I’ve realigned to be reborn, and I can resonate with the meaning behind La Catrina—while realizing that there is so much more to life, not to mourn but to live.

The Knickerbocker’s rooftop, St. Cloud, provided the perfect backdrop for this celebration. The event felt more than just an exploration of flavors—it was a sensory experience, blending culture, culinary art, and reflection on life’s fleeting nature.

I was honored to receive a special invitation from the Knickerbocker Hotel, in partnership with the esteemed Hotel Marquis Reforma in Mexico City. Their collaboration for this event brought the richness of Mexican culinary traditions to life, showcasing the flavors of two iconic regions: Oaxaca and Jalisco.

I look forward to future events that continue to bring diverse cultures and innovative experiences to the city, uniting us all through food, art, and meaningful celebrations.
