This past Saturday, I finally checked something off my Hamptons summer bucket list: attending a Danβs Papers event. Known for throwing some of the most sought-after parties of the seasonβfrom the sophisticated RosΓ© SoirΓ©e to the festive Red, White & BrewsβDanβs events are the heartbeat of summer out East. And let me tell you, Dan’s Grill Hampton was the perfect introduction.
Held on the lawn at The Clubhouse Hamptons in East Hampton, the event brought together over 15 top grill masters from across the New York metro area for a sizzling night of food, fun, and flavor. Each chef brought their A-game with signature grilled creationsβthink flame-charred burgers, tender steaks, flavorful sauces, vibrant veggies, and big personalities.
As a guest, I got to roam from station to station, enjoying unlimited tastings and casting my vote for the eveningβs best bite. By the end of the night, two champions will be crowned: Peopleβs Choice Top Grill Master and Judgesβ Top Grill Master. Quite an honor!
One thing I especially loved? Seeing so many Black-owned businesses represented throughout the event. The diversity of talent, flavors, and perspectives made the experience feel even more meaningfulβand gave me a few new spots to follow and support long after the grills cooled down.
All meat was provided by Master Purveyors, and it showed in the quality of every dish. But the experience didnβt stop at savory: there was even a pizza S’more and boozy ice cream from local brand Swizzled, which was just the kind of playful, grown-up treat you want at a summer tasting event.
Of course, the drinks were flowing too. Multiple bars were serving unlimited craft cocktails, beer, and wine, with pours from top sponsors like Corona Extra, Blue Moon, Maestro Dobel Tequila, Great Jones Whiskey, and Fishers Island Lemonade. Whether you were sipping a cold beer with ribs or pairing tequila with grilled shrimp, there was a drink for every bite.
DJ Theo kept the energy high all night with a dynamic live set that had guests dancing, mingling, and fully soaking up that signature Hamptons summer atmosphere. The entertainment didnβt stop at the DJ boothβthere were live dancers, a saxophone performer who played right alongside the beats, and a stunning stilt-walking performer who wowed the crowd with her presence and talent. It all added to the electric, festival-like vibe that made the night feel truly unforgettable.
As a VIP guest, you get to enter early and spend part of the night enjoying the private cabana area, complete with a stocked bar and reserved seating. Just when it seemed the night might be winding down, it was time for the VIP after-party at Common Ground East, which is connected directly to The Clubhouse. The vibe shifted from outdoor tasting event to sleek night lounge, with music still pumping and plenty of familiar faces from earlier in the night. Several of the chefs stayed to hang and mingle – some celebrating their wins.
As a first-timer, Grill Hampton set the bar high. It was more than a food eventβit was a curated, community-driven Hamptons experience that blended incredible food, great music, diverse talent, and a vibrant crowd. From savoring flame-grilled steak to dancing under the stars, it was everything summer in the Hamptons should be.
