Until death do us part is more of an urgent message than a ceremony in Rebel Wilson’s new comedy/action flick “Bride Hard.” The film’s title, you guessed it, lifts from the Bruce Willis touchstone action franchise “Die Hard,” where his character faces off against terrorists, extortionists, kidnappers, or some combination of the three. And that’s the same villainy Wilson’s character is up against, but in a much different setting. Instead of a hostage crisis in a Downtown LA skyscraper of the first “Die Hard,” Wilson finds herself at her best friend’s wedding. Again.
She’s attended quite a few weddings in her filmography. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride…hard. Of course, she catapulted her career in the 2011 comedy “Bridesmaids.” But her breakout role couldn’t be further from her latest. “It’s kind of totally different. In this one, I play an operative. I’m kind of a badass. I think I’ve done like four wedding movies,” said Wilson at the West Hollywood premiere of the film. “Wedding movies are just fun because it’s a melting point. Lots of characters just come into it.”

Her co-star Justin Hartley was impressed by Wilson’s comedy-cum-action star turn. “She was constantly just kicking ass, wasn’t she?” he said. On whether his character could hold his own versus Wilson’s character, “I don’t know if you would call it a fight scene. My character definitely gets in a fight with her. It’s pretty one-sided. I took the L on that one.” When asked if he had a particular action movie in mind during filming, he pondered a bit and came up with a pretty appropriate choice: “I do love ‘Die Hard.’”

Stephen Dorff and Wilson’s “Pitch Perfect” co-star Anna Camp also star in the film, helmed by veteran action director Simon West, most known for the hostage action blockbuster “Con Air.” “Bride Hard” hit theaters June 20.
