Season 2 of Pause with Sam Jay returns to HBO on May 20th.
This season pushes boundaries to stimulate conversations about various situations in everyday life. The show offers different and unique perspectives on issues that affect numerous communities. Through discussions with different groups and individuals, such as the communications director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, Cathy Renna, and the Black “Studs 4 Studs” from Atlanta, they offer their perspectives on the Black queer experience. In the show, Sam discusses feeling as if she is unable to relate to gay culture as it better reflects white queerness. Due to her experiences as a Black woman within the LGBTQ+ community, her upbringing causes her to feel more comfortable in specific environments.
Pause with Sam Jay alternates between informal and formal interviews, which causes the production and overall movement of the show to feel authentic. The show’s development allows fans and viewers to connect through genuine perspectives seen through scenarios, people, and pure emotions. Each episode explores a new topic that touches on various cultural issues and personal journeys. Sam describes the creation of season two as being better than season one due to the format of the show being less experimental and having more structure.
