Molly Sims has just become the newest brand ambassador for Procure Hydrocortisone + Calendula Cream. With a popular fashion and lifestyle blog, Sims has become a trusted source on all things beauty and skincare. We caught up with Molly to talk about why she loves this product, along with some of her other skincare favorites.
The Knockturnal: How did you get involved with Procure and become a brand ambassador for their hydrocortisone cream?
Molly Sims: So I’m a mom of three, so I have to pretty much be really organized, and I do these travel kits and first aid kits for each of my kids: one for Grey, one for Brooksie, and one for Scarlet. And we kind of started out because my son he has always been affected by eczema, not crazy bad and it was a little bit worse when he was young, but definitely to the point where you need a little bit of hydrocortisone. I found this product and it uses coconut oil and emollient. It doesn’t sting, it doesn’t burn, and it really makes his eczema feel so much better. So I found it, I talk about it, and that’s ultimately how I got involved. I try to use things that are paraben-free and as organic as possible. One product I’ve been using for years that drew my eye to it [Procure Hydrocortisone] is called calendula, and it’s phenomenal and really soothing, and I use it in some of my creams for myself. I actually had an incident, it probably ended up being some kind of contact dermatitis, and it was kind of red and bumpy, and I wanted to itch my face off, and I put it on my forehead and within 10 minutes I was like, “I can bear it.” It totally was soothing and healing and it kept it a little cold and blocked out a bit of the swelling. It was just amazing and I got that out of their first aid kit. It’s just a great product for every mom. I say every mom, but now I’m like I think everyone should have it because you never know if you’re going to break out or if a mosquito bite’s going to itch and you don’t want it to get worse.
The Knockturnal: You have such great skin, do you have any other advice or secrets on how to keep your skin so fresh?
Molly Sims: You know I think lots of water, but I also think taking care of it. This is going to sound weird, but I made a promise to myself to try and get facials once every two months, but also on a daily basis. I started using this product called Biologique Recherche. It’s called P50 1970, and it’s just like a vinegary product. It sounds really weird, but for whatever reason it has made such a big difference in my skin. Also having products that are as organic as they can be, but also keep doing it. Don’t just go from product to product to product to product, that’s one of my really big advice. So many things come out everyday, so stick with the ones that you know that work, keep going with them, and then you can add in products. I also added in recently hyaluronic drops which is basically just extra hydration and that is really, really good for the skin. Also the skin masks are really good, and they’re really easy to pop on. You can do it while you’re taking a bath, you can do it with your night routine or morning routine. I’ve done it where I pop on one while I’m making bottles and coffee in the morning.
The Knockturnal: You’ve developed a really big following on your blog. What was the process like building that site? How do you decide what material is going to excite your readers?
Molly Sims: You know it’s things that I love. Whether it’s how to layer your jewelry or what’s my nighttime routine. So many of my friends, I call it my morning headquarters, whenever we’re together we all say, “I use this,” “I use that,” “this is great,” “this is awesome,” and that’s how I also get so many mom tips. So really, what ends up on my feed is really what I use. I’m really picky with what I do. I’m going tell you what works and what doesn’t work. And I also have a really nice aesthetic where my girls ask “how did you put that together?” “why did you take one out?” “what does done undone mean?” I think it’s looking good but not looking perfect, looking like you, and being healthy and happy. I have a big neon sign in my house that says ‘Happy Mess’ and it’s the best happy mess you can get, you know living a healthy, happy life. That’s why I think it’s so important, even down to my first aid kit for all of my children, do I have products in there that I know work? It’s the same for me with my skincare and the things that I have in my refrigerator. It all goes into different compartments, but it all makes a home ultimately in the end. Too many gummy bears are going make me sick, you sick, and also the kids sick, so you have to just try to do your best, but also be organized. I think that’s where moms and girls get into too many products, they don’t know what to use and there’s too much information on the internet. There’s too much where it’s like “Try this, I know this works,” and I think that’s why my fans are drawn to me and I think that’s why I have such a huge success with brands and different companies because they trust me.
The Knockturnal: I saw you recently collaborated with Minnow on a children’s swimsuit line. You clearly have experience in the fashion world, but what was it like designing a line for kids?
Molly Sims: You know I don’t normally do it, and I haven’t done that kind of stuff really, but I buy them Minno. They did this whole Fourth of July shoot last year at my friend’s house, and I’m like “oh my God I love this brand.” I guess I kept posting how much I loved it and they were like “We’d love to do a collaboration with you,” and I was like “I don’t know, let me think about it,” and it was so fun. I was like I love a French blue with a liberty daisy print, and Morgan was awesome, I have to say it was so fun. I think they turned out so well. The bikini, the rash guard, the little boy shorts with the navy blue. I’m pretty specific in what I like and what I don’t like. I love girls in masculine and boys in feminine, like I love mixing that balance so my girls wear blue and my boy wears pink. It was awesome, I loved it.
The Knockturnal: Now that summer is in full swing, what fashion and beauty trends are you excited about this season?
Molly Sims: Definitely more of day-to-night. Anything that can go beach to night, like I love a summer glow. I’m obsessed with these Tom Ford double cream shadows, you have to get them. The top pops off and it’s a sparkle on top and a cream on the base. It makes such a beautiful eye I can’t even tell you. I’m all about that beachy undone-done look. Another great product is the Dry Foam from Ouai. It’s awesome, it gives you that kind of beachy wave without having to do a lot. I just love products, I love fashion, and I love beauty, and I love skincare, I get all obsessed.
