Jacob Latimore is starring as Emmett in the Showtime series “The Chi.” Jacob Latimore is best known for his roles in Black Nativity, The Maze Runner, Collateral Beauty, Detroit, and starting his career off as a singer.
THE CHI is a story about a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Season 4 will look at the wide-ranging effects of policing in the Black community and other run-ins with the police. Jacob says that starring in “The CHI” and the experiences in 2020/21 have hit home for him on different levels as racism and civil unrest is still present. By starring as Emmett who started off as a mama’s boy and is now labeled as a deadbeat dad, Emmett learns that he has to become a better man and create a better life for his family. Because Emmett is so young he has to make a choice on whether he wants to learn the importance of blending a family or sticking with the Chicago stereotype of broken families.
As an artist, Jacob is free to find his own style through acting and singing. Jacob says he is waiting to release new music when he feels it’s the right time. Jacob is constantly working to perfect his craft. He believes when he gets a role, he becomes a whole new person to give his best performance. For Jacob to be free as an artist, he believes a person must study, love the work that they do and be willing to give their time.
