In the small town of Carp Texas, Panic is a ruthless game the local graduating seniors participate in for the chance to win a life-changing grand prize of $50,000.
For most, this near-deadly game is the only way out of their small town circumstances. The players compete against each other in a series of risky challenges; so treacherous that two players died while participating the previous year. However, the death of the two players in the past does not deter a handful of seniors from betting their odds at winning the prize money and in turn raises the stakes and danger even more so.
The new Prime Video show is based on the popular young adult book by Lauren Oliver, who also executive produced the 10 episodic series. Having the Panic creator completely on board with the show was an asset to the cast who were able to reach out and have her at their disposal.
“I feel like it was great to have her do all three [created, wrote and produced] because you could just like call her and ask her a question and you know that that would be the answer,” said Olivia Welch who stars as the show’s main protagonist ‘Heather Nill’.
Of course, there’s always a certain pressure that comes with films and TV shows being adapted from novels.
“It’s a little nervewracking because you don’t know how it’s going to turn out and you just hope people will have a good time watching it,” said Jessica Sula.
Viewers can definitely expect a thrill while watching these high schoolers put themselves in nail-biting situations. With the police suspicious of their antics and the game’s judges being anonymous, the series makes viewers wonder who will win and who will fall.
Starring Olivia Welch, Mike Faist, Jessica Sula, Camron Jones, Ray Nicholson among others, Panic is the new mystery teenage suspense drama you don’t want to miss. If you don’t mind being at the edge of your seat, you can stream Panic on Amazon Prime Video this Friday, May 28th. In the meantime here’s the trailer:
