“Intense!” “Watch out!”—words from the cast of Betty to describe their latest season. HBO’s ballad to skate culture returns for its second season on Friday, June 11, 2021. The women behind the boards gave The Knockturnal a ring on what to expect in the episodes to come.
Last season, HBO revived Skate Kitchen with this coming-of-age tale. Female skaters of Gen-Z indulge in their passion amidst a male-centric community. With a sprinkle of themselves in their characters—Rachelle Vinberg, Ajani Russell, Nina Moran, Dede Lovelace, and Moonbear embody what it means to be young in the city of New York. No matter what life throws at them, the five have their friendships to keep themselves steady. They take on life, skateboards, careers, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The series also touches on important issues: sexual exploration, gentrification, capitalism, monogamy, and more.
Season Two opens with episode “Octopussy” and follows with 5 additional episodes at its 11 p.m. slot on the network. Besides the main ladies, we’ll see Katerina Tannenbaum, Andrew Darnell, Lil’ Dre, Chef Roblé Ali, and Rad Pereira this season—as well as familiar faces from Skate Kitchen.
