On a rainy Thursday morning on July 18th at the Flagship Microsoft Store, you could catch the charming glimpse of Gabriella Pizzolo’s character, Susie, from the hit TV series, “Stranger Things”. Poised and passionate about STEM education for girls, Pizzolo appears much wiser than her sixteen years. Pizzolo shared her excitement to be a part of this Thursday’s Microsoft, Camp “Know Where” series hosting NYC’s “Girls Who Code”. The challenge for today was based on the attendees learning to crack morse code, to save the world with the help of Susie herself.

“I haven’t had much experience, but I’m really excited to get to learn more today,” said Pizzolo, referencing today’s challenge. Being new to coding doesn’t stop Gabriella from being eager to learn with the girls around her. “I think really, it’s important for anyone to get an education no matter their age or their gender. And I think it’s important that the education system is equal for everyone,” said Pizzolo. Although a fairly new addition to “Stranger Things”, only appearing in Season 3, Pizzolo is a veteran to the limelight. From starring on Broadway as Matilda to singing at the White House, Pizzolo’s musical skills were showcased in the latest season of “Stranger Things”. Pizzolo discusses her duet with Gaten Mazzarato who plays, “Dustin”. “We actually didn’t really practice a lot. We showed up and we were shooting for around twelve hours so by the very end of the filming process we had had it,” she said with a laugh. Surrounded by strong female characters on “Stranger Things”, Pizzolo fits right in. they maneuver their way to success together. An avid fan of the “Stranger Things” before signing on the role as Susie, Pizzolo was drawn to the show with a similar goal in mind: to learn. “I was learning more about the ‘80s and it’s an incredible story. And getting to be a part of that was incredible,” explained Pizzolo. Fans are eager to see Pizzolo take on a bigger role as a strong female character in Season 4 – and so is Pizzolo. “I would love that, but I know nothing about the next season,” Pizzolo humbly admitted. learning and progressing with the rest of the girls on the challenge. Teamwork is a veteran concept to her, after working with writers, the Duffer Brothers and the cast of “Stranger Things”. “Everyone was very cohesive and they were all working together. Everyone was a part of a puzzle that when it was put together, everything worked perfectly,” Pizzolo said of working with the cast, crew, and the Duffer Brothers. The most difficult thing about adapting to the role of Susie? Pizzolo pauses thoughtfully before giving the perfect answer. “The demogorgons.”
