Dearest reader, be prepared for new storylines and arches to come in season 2 of House of the Dragon.
For those who missed it, season 1 revolved around King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and his family: daughter and heir Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock, Emma D’Arcy), wife Alicent (Olivia Cooke), and sons Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell).
The people of Westeros assumed that the King would appoint Aegon as his successor, since it is tradition for the oldest son to hold such a position in the royal family. However, the King chose not to make that decision, as that also meant Rhaenrya would be replaced by her younger brother.
While on his deathbed, King Viserys spoke about a member of the family tree, Aegon the Conqueror. However, while talking about this ancestor, Alicent thought that he was wishing for their son Aegon, to succeed him after his timely death. Her father, Otto (Rhys Ifans) who is a Green and opponent to the Blacks, used this story against King Viserys, and took away Rhaenyra’s power as his successor to give the Iron Throne to Aegon, who is now King.
Season 1 left fans at the edge of their seats as it ended with Aegon’s younger brother, Aemond killing Rhaenrya’s son, which is the reason for The Targaryen civil war in season 2.
The Knockturnal spoke with the show’s crew, including showrunner and co-creator, Ryan Condal, as well as directors, Clare Kilner, Alan Taylor, Lani Peristere and actors of the show. With the highly anticipated series to be released on June 16th on HBO Max, the cast of the show spoke about the evolution of their characters, as well as what to expect from them this coming season of House of the Dragon.
