This week’s Power Book III: Raising Kanan followed up with last week’s episode in a brutal fashion as Krystal, Kanan’s girlfriend, is shot to death by Pop in the first minute of the episode.
We caught up with Erika Woods to discuss this week’s explosive episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, written by Kevin Fox, a pivotal hour that pushed her character, Pop, into bold new territory.
According to Woods, Fox had a clear vision for Pop in this episode. “Kevin felt like it was time for Pop to step up,” she shared. “He wanted to do something shocking, and he believed Pop was the right person to carry it out.” Initially, Woods had questions about her character’s motivations. “I wasn’t sure why Pop would take that kind of action. She’s used to delegating, having a crew handle things. But then I started thinking… Maybe she is doing things on her own. Maybe she does have secrets.”
That shift in perspective led Woods to embrace the moment fully. “I was all in and honestly, in shock myself. Now, I’m just eager to see how it all plays out.”
When asked about Pop and Snaps lying to Kanan, Erika Woods teased that the storyline is just beginning to unfold. She hinted that viewers will soon see new layers of Pop emerge. Known so far as the loyal wife and one-half of a duo, Pop is now beginning to step out on her own and reveal what she’s truly capable of. According to Woods, there are many sides to the character that have yet to be seen, and watching those unfold will be an exciting journey for the audience.
I think we are going to see the women play an even bigger role in this war,” she said. “Up until now, it’s been pretty male-dominated. But now it’s the women. Women are stepping up and getting involved, and I just think you’re going to see a lot of shocking surprises from all the characters involved.”
Social media has been buzzing with fan theories about Power Book III: Raising Kanan, ranging from speculation about whether Unique is actually Breeze, to questions surrounding Raquel’s fate, and even the idea that the kid who discovered Famous could be a young Ghost. While Erika Woods has come across a few predictions suggesting Pop and her crew were behind the shooting of Famous, most viewers have yet to piece together what’s unfolding. One theory even linked them to Krystal’s abduction involving the police, but according to Woods, no one is prepared for the twist that’s coming with Pop and Krystal.
“I don’t see any of those theories at all. That’s what I’m so excited about. We kept it really quiet. We were really private when we were shooting, so I’m really excited about that,” she said.
