Check out our exclusive interview with Dashaun Wesley, the MC of the new HBOMax original series, “Legendary”
The HBOMax original series, “Legendary”, is the biggest ball competition ever. Created by the young African American and Latin American LGBTQ community in New York City in the 1920s, ball is a competition in which teams, called houses, compete through a mixed performance consisting of dancing, lip-syncing, and modeling for prizes, trophies, and glory. “Legendary” is the largest ball competition, where 8 houses compete over 9 balls for a grand prize of $100,000. Judging the competition are Megan Thee Stallion, Leiomy Maldonado, Jameela Jamil, and Law Roach, alongside DJ MikeQ, and the MC, Dashaun Wesley. We got a chance to speak with Dashaun Wesley and talk about the show, his experience in the ballroom community, and more. “Legendary is taking ballroom and letting everyone see, at home, what happens. It’s sort of that peek into what the world is like,” said Deshaun, “I think what this is doing is giving everyone the opportunity to know what ballroom is from a larger aspect and what it’s like for us to come together to compete, for us to share our experiences, and come together as family.”
