Exclusive: Christina Milian Discusses Oral Health Inequality and More

Christina Milian is partnering with Oral B and Crest to help to end oral health inequality. Quality Oral health care not only prevents bad breath but prevents tooth decay and gum disease. For Christina Milian, it is important especially for Black and Brown children to receive not only education about proper oral health care, but access to the necessary resources to maintain it.

Along with sharing the message of oral health Milian discussed the importance and value of Afro-Latinx representation. Today, the understanding of race, ethnicity, and nationality along with the lack of understanding surrounding the diversity of Latin America has resulted in improper representation and in many cases a lack of Black latinos being properly represented and allowed to tell their stories. For many Afro-Latinos Milian was one of the few public figures who was afro-latino on and off screen.

For Milian, being able to be that on screen representation for Afro-Latinos is a humbling experience and is something she prioritized throughout her career. With every role she’s portrayed she has weaved together her Afro-Cuban heritage into her character through incorporating an element of her own culture into her roles.

Advocacy for Black and Brown people isn’t new for the star. She has been an advocate for expanding Latinx representation for years and now her advocacy work is expanding to helping to end orla inequality. Today, the greatest victims of oral inequality are children of color, and Christina Milian’s partnership with Oral B and Crest is looking to change that.
