Men in Black: International is a continuation of the original sci-fi action comedy about a secret organization that protects Earth from alien intruders. Producers Walter F. Parks and Laurie MacDonald spoke with The Knockturnal about why a new movie felt appropriate. βWe knew after the third that collectively Will and Tommie and Berry Sonnenfeld felt [like] weβve told that story, weβre not going to try to do a fourth. And we didnβt do anything for a couple of years […] it really came out of an idea that began with Tessa Thompsonβs character.β MacDonald shared with us.
βMollyβ later known as Agent M., is played by Tessa Thompson, she portrays a young recruit similar to Will Smithβs character in the previous three films. For Thompson, playing a black, female lead felt important because she says thereβs not enough inclusion in Hollywood.βThe reason that I really wanted to make movies is because I didnβt see enough of us [black women], I think weβre silenced in the real world and weβre also silenced on screenβ Thompson says.
βAvengersβ star Chris Hemsworth portrays Agent H., a member of the British branch of MIB. Men in Black: International marks the third film Thompson and Hemsworth have starred in together.
