The cast of Tyler Perry’s ‘Ruthless’ sat down with The Knockturnal to discuss the upcoming midseason premiere.
The first half of Season 1 left off with a big cliff-hanger, and the cast (Melissa L. Williams (Ruth), Matt Cedeño (The Highest), Lenny D. Thomas (DiKahn), Yvonne Senat Jones (Tally) and Collin McCalla (River), gave small hints of what their fans can expect when the show returns on November 26 on BET+.
“The first season showed [Ruth’s] more vulnerable and open side and now you’re gonna see what it’s like when a woman has put her walls up and what happens in that way,” Melissa L. Williams said of her character Ruth.
The cast shared what it’s like to work with Tyler Perry, who wrote, created and directs the show.
“He definitely is a presence,” said Yvonne Senat Jones, who plays Tally. “When you’re around him he has so many hats at the same time, he’s producing and he wrote it and he’s directing and he’s in charge of everything. So there’s a lot of respect that immediately just fills you when you’re there with him. But he also is so humble that you really feel valued as an actor on his set.”
“I just remember throughout the course of shooting he would just be cracking jokes. He would be roasting us at times in fun ways,” Collin McCalla, who plays new character River, said. “I think the great thing about working with him is when you show up prepared and you show up doing your homework, you’re given the ability to just play and have so much fun with your character and he gives actors a lot of freedom to explore.”
