What’s the best part about living? According to Michael Bay, it’s “smelling the trees, loving someone, having a dog, having a kid” Well, you can add “watching 6 Underground” to that list.
The Knockturnal had the pleasure of attending the premiere of Netflix’s new film, 6 Underground, at The Shed at Hudson Yards on December 10. 6 Underground, directed by Michael Bay and starring Ryan Reynolds, Mélanie Laurent, Adria Arjona, Ben Hardy, Corey Hawkins, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, is a wild ride. I can guarantee that you will be on the edge of your seat the ENTIRE 128 minutes. Well, since it’s on Netflix, the edge of your couch, but you get the point. Ryan himself calls this movie, “the most Michael Bay movie in the history of Michael Bay,” and honestly, he’s not wrong.

6 Underground features 6 individuals from around the globe, that work together in a pursuit to change the world with their leader, “One.” The twist? They’re all dead. The one thing they all have in common? They gave up their lives to start fresh, delete their pasts, and make the world a better place. So what makes this the most Michael Bay film ever? “Because it is the most Michael Bay film ever. Everything is so big. If we are, we know Michael’s films, we’ve seen Michael’s films, but this is so much bigger, huge.” says Lior Raz. “The violent, the action scenes are crazy, you cannot sit on your chair.”
Since this was a Michael Bay film, of course the event was anything but boring. What’s the casual way to begin a premiere? Oh you know, the usual, just men doing parkour on the ceiling. Seriously though, it was crazy. I felt like I was in the film myself.
We had the chance to chat with Lior Raz who plays the villain in the film. No more Mr. Nice Guy for Raz! He enjoyed playing the villain, which is something he isn’t used to. “First of all, most of the time I’m playing, I’m doing the good guys, but here I got the opportunity to do, once in a lifetime, do a bad guy in a Michael Bay film, so it’s a really really really bad guy,” says Raz. “Michael gave me the freedom to do whatever, you know as an actor, to bring it on. To do whatever I think it should be.”
Michael Bay, Adria Arjona, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo discussed with the Knockturnal that the cast became extremely close over the course of filming and they shared their favorite moments on set. Adria Arjona said that her favorite moments happened in the car. “We would get so delirious in that car, going so fast, me and Mélanie, it was like if we were drunk, almost drunk everyday, with no alcohol. Just like bumping heads, and we would get really clumsy,” says Arjona. “And Michael would get really mad. I think we were a disaster.”
Just when the night was ending, it actually hadn’t even begun because it was time for the AFTER-PARTY. Shout out to Netflix because I learned that they really know how to throw a party. There was a DJ playing some bangers, the food was delish and the lime green Italian car from the film was there. Plus, the cocktails featured Aviation Gin, the official gin of none other than Ryan Reynolds himself.
