With Valentines Day just around the corner, there is really only one thing on everyone’s mind: love.
Whether your opinion on Valentine’s Day is positive or negative the fact remains that everyone wants to find love and sometimes you might do some crazy things to find it. In I Want You Back we get to follow the story of Peter, played by the hilarious Charlie Day, and Emma, played by the amazing Jenny Slate, after they’ve both been dumped by the “loves of their lives”. The two strangers meet while crying after both coincidentally having been broken up with, and form a friendship with one another while bonding over their heartbreak. Driven by desperation to regain the love they once had, the two set out to help each other. One night during one their “Sadness Sister” dates, the two hatch a crazy plan to help each other win back their exes by sabotaging their new relationships. Emma is tasked with getting Anne’s, played by Gina Rodriguez, new boyfriend Logan, played by Manny Jacinto, to fall in love with her. While Emma has her hands full with that, Peter must become friends with Emma’s fitness fanatic boyfriend Noah, played by Scott Eastwood, and get him to break up with his new girlfriend Ginny, played by Clark Backo, and convince him that he made a mistake in breaking up with Emma. During all of this madness and the web of lies Emma and Peter begin to weave, you see the two go through many changes in their personal lives and discover that maybe being broken up with was the best thing that could have happened to them. With an amazing script written by “This is Us” duo Isaac Aptaker and and Elizabeth Berger, the genius that is Jason Orley’s directing, and such an amazing and hilarious cast you’ll learn that there can actually be a very humorous and healing side to heartbreak. This movie completely reimagines what we know to be as a classic rom-com with its earnest and timeless pursuit of lost love with all the characters being people with their own stories who you can root for.
Once we arrived to the red carpet of the Los Angeles premiere for Amazon Prime’s I Want You Back we got the opportunity to speak to the cast and crew. After concluding our interviews, we headed over to the drive-in theater complete with movie essential snack packs and got ready to watch the movie. The quirky and hilarious film was an instant hit with my friend and I, both of us being avid rom-com enjoyers. After tons of laughs and a few tears, the movie concluded and we were directed to the after party which featured a variety of different food truck options, multiple bars with two signature cocktails, an amazing DJ, and lots of fun attractions like a haiku station and a photo booth. There were many things to celebrate that evening including Charlie Day, whose birthday celebration we got to join in on. With tons of great music, food, and drinks the night ended out on a very uplifting and festive note.
