On The Scene: HBO Max ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ Season 2 Premiere

by Claire Kay Hernandez November 17, 2022
written by Claire Kay Hernandez

Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble

On Thursday November 10th I attended the premiere event for HBO’s Season 2 of The Sex Lives of College Girls. I missed my alma mater’s homecoming this year, and The Sex Lives of College Girls definitely made up for it! The premiere truly felt like a college homecoming.

The night started off at the iconic NeueHouse Bradbury in Downtown LA. Hosted by HBOMax and Phenomenal, Essex College Career Night was a blast. Upon walking in guests were welcomed with a quick photoshoot. There were signature cocktails at the bar including Jungle Juice and Essex Mules. Stars Pauline Chalamet, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott were in attendance.

Renee Rapp, Lolo Spencer, Alyah Chanelle Scott and Chris Meyer

Waiters walked around with trays of finger foods including grilled cheese, mini sliders, and mushroom tacos. While there, guests were able to customize their own Essex College sweatshirts! There was also an interactive wall where attendees could share their own college journey. Attendees were encouraged to pick a colored ribbon and plot life moments that brought them to where they were today. Some of those moments were super goofy, “came drunk to class, did undie run, had $1 in my bank account.”

Creators of the show Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble were in attendance and gave a speech thanking the cast and crew for their hard work, and celebrated everyone’s accomplishments thus far in their careers. Upon leaving guests were given goodie bags packed with all the things needed to conquer a college tailgate. Goodies included @LIVETINTED Hueguard & Hueglow, @CALPAK Water Bottle Holder, and an @YETI Water Bottle, along with a $50 Postmates gift card to enjoy the day of the premiere.

@CALPAK, @YETI, @LIVETINTED

The screening took place at Los Angeles Center Studios where guests got to see episode 1 of season 2. With this new season comes even more chaos and sticky situations for our leading ladies to dive into, together. It will be exciting to see just what’s in store for season 2 as the stakes continue to rise.

Following the screening was the afterparty directly outside. Music was by ROSEGOLD with a special guest performance from artist Joyce Wrice. Wrice performed music off her latest EP, Motive with Downtown LA as her background. The energy between her and the crowd was beautiful to witness.

Joyce Wrice

The party included fun interactive games such as beer pong, connect four, table tennis and bean bag tossing. Food trucks such as Coolhaus and Trejo’s Tacos provided delicious food to munch on in between the dancing and playing games. Bumble was taking pictures of guests to update your instagram or dating apps with.

Safe to say, this was the best Homecoming I’ve ever been to. The Sex Lives of College Girls Season 2 premieres Thursday November 17th on HBO Max. Be sure to tune in!

The Stranger Things Experience Brings Hawkins To Atlanta

by Chantell Hayden November 16, 2022
written by Chantell Hayden

Hawkins is on a global wide tour. The Stranger Things Experience has officially landed in Atlanta, GA after opening in NYC and San Francisco earlier this year. The beloved Netflix series is now paired with an exciting hour-long walk through of Hawkins, Indiana.

We all know the Stranger Things kids are no stranger to danger and if you’ve ever wanted a firsthand look at the chaos, then this is your chance. Follow Max, Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Erica through Hawkins as they try to defeat Hawkins biggest villains.

Without giving out any spoilers, fans are invited to interact with characters at Hawkins notoriously corrupt science lab, solve mysteries through different challenges and enjoy food and drinks inspired by the show in Hawkins very own Starcourt Mall.

Guests are thrown back to the 80’s where leg warmers and tacky windbreakers are the norm, and Scoops Ahoy employees walk around (adorably) interacting with guests in their iconic sailor uniforms.

Vintage arcade video games like Joust and Dig Dug line the walls of Palace Arcade, and of course there are plenty of opportunities for photo-ops in some. Old-fashioned photo booths. Guest can even explore Will Byer’s living room and then sit and enjoy a drink at The Upside, a neon-themed bar with specialty drinks and displays with real props and costumes from the show.

And it wouldn’t be a Stranger Things adventure without having to run for your lives through the woods at some point.

We got to chat with Netflix’s Marketing Producer Iris Arias about her role as a curator and how the live experience went global.

The Stranger Things Experience is coming to a city near you and, in addition to Atlanta, is now open in Los Angeles and London. Fans can also visit the website and nominate their cities to be Hawkins next landing spot. Tickets start at $49. Follow Stranger Things Experience for more info.

Exclusive: Pauline Chalamet, Reneé Rapp, Alyah Chanelle Scott and Amrit Kaur talk Season 2 of The Sex Lives Of College Girls

by Sydney Hargrove November 15, 2022
written by Sydney Hargrove

It’s a new semester at Essex College and Kimberly, Bela, Leighton, and Whitney are up to even more in the highly anticipated second season of the fan-favorite The Sex Lives of College Girls. From the exquisite minds of Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, the series once again follows the four roommates as they navigate sex, relationships, passions, futures, and so much more. The show perfectly captures the ever-so-unique time period of being a college freshman, something that isn’t exactly comparable to anything else in life. The beauty of the series is that pretty much any viewer can see a representation of themself on screen, in the high highs and the low lows of the time in which the girls are constantly navigating.

In Season two, we meet the girls right as  Thanksgiving break draws to a close and It’s time for a new semester. The girls (Pauline Chalamet’s Kimberly, Amrit Kaur’s Bela, Alyah Chanelle Scott’s Whitney, and Reneé Rapp’s Leighton) are not the same people that they were at the beginning of last semester, especially Kimberly, who is navigating the many changes that her life has seen. “You’ll see a Kimberly that’s facing much bigger problem and who is growing into herself,” Pauline said. “She’s forced to kind of grow up a little.”

We sat down with Pauline, Renee, Alyah and Amrit to talk all about season two! Check out the conversation below!

The Walking Dead Season 11, Episode 23 Review

by Julian Cannon November 14, 2022
written by Julian Cannon

There is one more episode of The Walking Dead after this week and there is a ton to process.

The biggest story of the week is Judith being shot by Pamela. To me, this is a remix of the comic book scene when Sebastian shot and killed Rick Grimes. While that was a straight up assassination, this was an accidental crossfire in which she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I wanted to see Pamela die once this happened. But I have a feeling that Pamela will be overthrown as the leader of The Commonwealth and to be jailed for her actions.

With that said, while the shootout scene was good, it reminded me of The Walking Dead’s eight’s season. I love that season, but just like the many opportunities Rick had to kill Negan, the same can be said for Pamela. How is it that Daryl had a clean view to shoot the fire extinguisher but yet he could not do this to Pamela before that. With that nitpick aside, the battle kept my attention.

Lydia getting bit was something I found to be unexpected. Cassady McClincy did a great job with her acting on the scene including when her wrist had to be cut off. Also to note, Aaron telling Lydia that she is loved by the family is a great touch of a warm feeling since she did not have that same love from her own mom regardless that Alpha protected her most of the time.

I do not expect Mercer to be in jail for long since he is working against The Commonwealth now. Plus, He has to be the one to help everyone that got boxed it with the walkers and variants by Pamela’s orders. It is a sticky situation that brought the family together!

Another easter egg we got that I liked is the way Daryl carried Judith which mirrored Rick carrying Carl Grimes when he first got shot. I think the scene would have been better without Judith saying “daddy” to leave it more ambiguous but that is just me.

I really enjoyed this one and it is my favorite of this final batch of episodes of The Walking Dead. Next week is the final episode ever which is going to be a big one!

Netflix Hosts Sensational ‘Wednesday’ Night Function to Celebrate Fierce Addams Family Reboot

by Jonathan Tolliver November 13, 2022
written by Jonathan Tolliver

Wednesday was a DRAG, baby. Netflix x Most put together a rowdy, revelatory soirée in honor of ‘Wednesday,’ their upcoming Addams Family  reboot focused on everyone’s favorite moody teen girl. From the clips they showed at the event, this show is whip smart, funny and gorgeous. C’mon, art direction!

TS Madison

The night was hosted by the divine TS Madison, who was absolutely part of my queer awakening back in the day. She got us all riled up and ready for some haunting drag numbers.

Crystal Methyd (Drag Race Season 12) performed in a self-made ‘Thing’ look, aka a giant hand. It was hilarious and fun and a fantastic kickoff to the night’s performances.

Mo Heart (Drag Race Season 10, All Stars 4, UK vs The World) delivered the tightest lip-sync of the night; a sultry, sexy number where she skulked around stage seducing us all.

Gottmik (Drag Race Season 13)  was all gusto in his goth glam rock number. He had the best look of the night in a witchy black ensemble. Face beat, hair slicked. Here for it.

Violet Chachki (Drag Race Season 7) had me sweating with a burlesque performance that hit all the right notes. Damn, ma!

We then danced the night away to spooky mashups of pop hits, took photos at the IG-friendly lil setup and generally had the time of our lives.

Be sure to check out ‘Wednesday’ when it drops November 23rd. It’s gonna be a moment.

On The Scene: HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2 Premiere

by Claire Kay Hernandez November 9, 2022
written by Claire Kay Hernandez

On Thursday October 20th I attended the red carpet for The White Lotus Season 2 Premiere in Los Angeles where I got to chat with the cast. Attendees included F. Murray Abraham, Jennifer Coolidge, Adam DiMarco, Meghann Fahy, Jon Gries, Beatrice Grannò and more.

The entire cast was elated to be celebrating this new season. “Sometimes if you hang around long enough, your dreams will come true.” Murray expressed. He went on to say, “One of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had. And I’ve been doing this for a long time. This was for me, as good as the work I’ve done with Wes Anderson. He was wonderful to work with and so was Mike, a family feeling.”

The cast filmed on location in Sicily, which fully immersed them and their characters in the culture. “I have to say you know being in Sicily with Mike White and the cast and you know I know a lot of them. I know Jon Gries from last year and I made some new Italian friends. But you know it’s riveting to be in another country and you’re on a job and experiencing something.” Jennifer Coolidge said.

Other HBO stars on the carpet included Quincy Isaiah and Solomon Hughes from HBO’s “Winning Time.” As well as Lukas Gage from season 1 of “The White Lotus.” Actor and Comedian Eric André was also in attendance.

The White Lotus Season 2 is available to stream on HBO Max.

EXCLUSIVE: The Walking Dead star Khary Payton Opens up on working with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Melissa McBride, and a video call from Andrew Lincoln

by Julian Cannon November 8, 2022
written by Julian Cannon
Editor’s note, this interview took was scheduled to be published on Oct. 23 prior to our new server update.
Khary Payton has been a main character of The Walking Dead since the seventh season as Ezekiel. As the main show is wrapping up, Ezekiel and Negan had a conversation for the first time as he called the former Saviors leader out for coercing women for marrying him, killing his Kingdom residents, and pretty much letting him know that he will never forget what he did. Ezekiel is also part of the revolt against The Commonwealth.
With that said, I caught up with Khary Payton to talk about these developments along with his memories on the set in this exclusive interview.
How was Alexandria being turned into an outpost and labor camp approached by you?
“It came to me in the script. I didn’t get any input when I picked up the script, so I was like, ‘oh, this is cool.’ We’re going full circle, you know? After leaving Alexandria, it’s becoming another walk down memory lane and it’s going to be pretty cool. It’s going to be pretty interesting because. Because the time that we were shooting all of this stuff for Alexandria ends up being some of the coldest that I’ve spent shooting the show. And it’s and I feel like you can see it in the filming. It’s gray and dank.”
You and Jeffrey Dean Morgan finally had an exchange of dialogue for the first time. Were you satisfied with the outcome?
“Jeff and I were excited to finally work together. We’ve been on the show for years, and except maybe on a battlefield where arrows and bullets are flying and swords swinging, we weren’t having interaction. So this was the first time we actually had a conversation So we were looking forward to it. It was fun. I love the way he worked. And it was cool to finally get together and do it that way. It’s like it’s one of those things where life isn’t perfect. And when they hand you lemons, you make lemonade. When they hand you Negan, you use him to do what he does best, which is which is a little havoc. And hopefully this time it’ll pay off for people who deserve it. You know, I think that Ezekiel’s intent was to put his own feelings aside to take care of business.”
After the filming of the series concluded, what was the first thing you did when you went home and did you had time to reflect on your time on The Walking Dead?
“I went home and hugged my kids. Before the pandemic, I would fly home constantly. So even if I was away for a couple of weeks, that was as long as it was. So when the pandemic hit, it was like months at a time before I would see them again and that was really hard. So this was a grind getting to the end of the show. And, and I feel like I’ve still haven’t had a chance to take a deep breath and breathe it all in and understand what it’s meant to me and my life and career and all of that. Melissa McBride is probably the thing I will miss the most about the show. She is the greatest acting teacher I’ve ever had. I learned something beautiful and nuanced from her every time I’m on set with her. I don’t think I’ll ever know anyone like her again. And it was always magic when we were on set together. The thing is, she teaches you without even trying. She is a raw nerve and a live wire. And she feels and and takes aspects of so many things about from the script or just in the room surrounding you. She takes and uses it and she’s pointed out things to me along the way that have just changed my perspective on a scene and the way that we interact with each other.”
One of my favorite episodes from the previous season was “Walk With Us” when we saw The Hilltop burn down during that chaotic battle. Any moments you would like to share about your experience during that lengthy scene?
“I remember how awesome the kids were. I had one kid in my arms holding one’s hand and seven others running behind me and they were such little professionals. They listened and took direction. There’s all this fire and flames and horses running and all of this stuff. I’m proud of all of them. And that’s what I will remember most. I also remember that because we were right next to the fire and there were so many fun moments, the nights that we were shooting those scenes, with The Whisperers and the walkers. We’d all been waiting for this battle to happen all season. And it was and it felt so cathartic, you know, I remember that Andrew Lincoln video called Norman that night. And we all huddled around the phone and video chatted with Andrew Lincoln, who we hadn’t seen in so long. It was a cool night.”
