On The Scene: How Papa John’s Turned One of its New York Locations Into a Five Star Dining Experience

by Julian Cannon March 7, 2026
written by Julian Cannon

In recent years, several well-known fast food chains have experimented with transforming individual locations into elevated dining experiences. The concept reimagines familiar brands in a setting more commonly associated with fine dining. Companies such as Shake Shack, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell have all explored versions of this idea. Papa Johns recently joined the trend with its own creative interpretation, delivering an experience that surprised many guests.

On February 19, the company transformed its Lower East Side location in New York City into a Michelin inspired dining experience for one day only. The event highlighted the brand’s playful ambition of becoming the first major pizza chain to earn a Michelin Star. While the concept was meant to be lighthearted, the experience emphasized the company’s focus on craftsmanship and quality ingredients.

The event also served as a celebration of Papa Johns’ recently launched Pan Pizza, which debuted earlier in the month. The brand used the occasion to highlight its belief that great pizza deserves recognition alongside other celebrated culinary creations. By placing a familiar menu item in a fine dining style setting, the company created a unique moment that blended fast food culture with the atmosphere of high-end dining.

Papa Johns Dining Experience

After experiencing the event firsthand, I can say it was an unexpectedly enjoyable experience. Walking into a fast-food location and seeing it transformed into something resembling a Michelin level dining room was not something I expected at all. The atmosphere, presentation, and attention to detail created a memorable twist on what people usually associate with quick service restaurants.

A spokesperson for Papa Johns explained that the inspiration for the event came from the development of the new Pan Pizza. During its creation, the company realized that the product shared several qualities often associated with the world’s best cuisine. The pizza focused on quality ingredients, careful preparation, balanced flavors, and consistency across every serving.

“So we asked ourselves: what if we lean all the way in? By turning a familiar Papa Johns location into a reservation-only, fine dining moment, we gave guests a playful, elevated way to experience the Michelin-level care, craft, and intention behind Pan Pizza with just enough whimsy to remind everyone we know exactly how bold this all was,” said a spokesperson from Papa Johns.

Now that Pan Pizza has become a permanent item on the Papa Johns menu, the company says it can showcase that consistency on a much larger scale. Customers across the United States can experience the same product at more than 3,000 locations, allowing the brand to deliver the same flavors and preparation standards nationwide.

Following the opening, Papa Rewards members were given the exclusive opportunity to reserve a table at the transformed location for a 50 minute, three course dining experience. Guests enjoyed a curated tasting menu, Michelin level dining service, and a thoughtfully paired beverage experience led by a PepsiCo Soda Sommelier from PepsiCo.

When asked whether the brand might bring the concept to other locations or connect it to future events, representatives explained that the experience was designed as a one night celebration. The event served as a creative proof of concept that allowed the company to showcase its passion for pizza and highlight the scale of its ambitions. The brand emphasized that great pizza deserves meaningful recognition and that the event was a playful way to demonstrate that idea.

Although no additional events have been officially scheduled, the company noted that it remains open to exploring unexpected and engaging ways to connect with customers in the future.

Artists and Activists Gather at Historic Chaplin Studios for Sankofa.org Social Justice Awards Honoring Harry Belafonte’s Legacy

by Sharafa Odusanya March 6, 2026
written by Sharafa Odusanya

Los Angeles, CA – Artists, activists, and cultural leaders gathered Sunday, March 1 at the historic Chaplin Studios in Hollywood for the inaugural Sankofa.org Social Justice Awards, an evening celebrating art, activism, and the enduring legacy of legendary singer, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte.

Held on what would have been Belafonte’s 99th birthday, the fundraiser honored contemporary leaders whose work continues to challenge injustice and inspire change. The evening recognized civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, renowned visual artist Shepard Fairey, hip hop pioneer Chuck D, and actor and activist Danny Glover for their cultural and social impact. Guests experienced a uniquely immersive program guided through wireless headphones, with music curated by Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and conversations hosted alongside journalist and radio personality Dominique DiPrima. The intimate format blended music, storytelling, and dialogue throughout the evening.

The program opened with a Sankofa.org film presentation and a stirring choral performance from the Fernando Pullum Choir, setting a powerful tone for the night. Gina Belafonte, co founder and president of Sankofa.org, delivered remarks highlighting her father’s belief that artists play a critical role in advancing truth and justice. Throughout the evening, honorees were recognized for their contributions to art and activism. Shepard Fairey was celebrated for using visual art as a platform for political expression, while Dolores Huerta received a moving tribute honoring her decades of leadership in labor rights and social justice movements. Chuck D reflected on the role of hip hop as a voice for truth and transformation before accepting his award.

The night also featured performances and spoken word moments from Aloe Blacc, poet Monique Mitchell, and Iman Jordan, recipient of the Harry Belafonte Best Song for Social Change Grammy. Blacc delivered one of the evening’s most memorable moments, closing the program with a powerful rendition of “Not on My Watch” alongside Gina Belafonte and the Fernando Pullum Children’s Choir before returning for an encore performance of his global hit “Wake Me Up.”

Founded in 2013 by Harry Belafonte, Gina Belafonte, and Raoul Roach, Sankofa.org continues to mobilize artists and activists in support of grassroots movements and social justice initiatives. As the evening concluded inside Chaplin Studios, a venue deeply connected to Belafonte’s legacy, the message of the night was clear: the intersection of art and activism remains a powerful force for change.

Dove Presents ‘Pits & Giggles’ Hosted By Hannah Berner

by Nishat Baig March 5, 2026
written by Nishat Baig

Last night Dove celebrated the launch of it’s latest Clinical + Care collection with a fun and feminine comedy night! Dove brought together a lineup of talented comedians to share their sweatiest stories in the spirit of sisterhood and women empowerment for Women’s History Month. The lineup included host Hannah Berner alongside fellow comedians Amber Autry, Sydnee Washington and Daniela Mora. Each comedian shared hilarious anecdotes and Hannah even gave a 30 minute interactive set about everywhere she’s ever sweat inviting guests to share their experiences breaking down barriers and stigma around this natural human phenomenon.

In a room filled with mostly women and a few men, Hannah helped us laugh about things we normally do our best to hide, allowing us to embrace the full scope of our femininity, even the sweaty parts. The most hysterical moment from her set had to be when she remembered interviewing a boy band’s lead singer and having sweat-soaked tissue fall out of her dress, only to be returned by the concerned lead singer, cementing her visceral embarrassment. Daniela shared a funny moment from a drunken-night-out that ended in stitches, Sydnee recalled an unexpected encounter with TSA that ended with Taco Bell and Amber shared some intimate details that reminded us that embarrassing moments can lead to bonding.

Before the stand up started, guests were invited to share their sweaty moments at the Dove “Pits & Giggles” photo booth followed by complimentary cocktails and lite bites that circulated all night. The cucumber cooler and peach please cocktails were inspired by the scents in Dove’s latest collection and Dove even gave tote goodie bags filled with Dove merch and a deo spray from their latest Clinical + Care release. This unforgettable night left guests crying from laughter and ready to tackle sweat with Dove’s new Clinical + Care deodorant spray.
